Kylie POV

I was blinded by sunlight coming through my window when I woke up. I groaned, rolled over, and sluggishly glanced at my alarm clock. 7:30. I widened my eyes in shock. My alarm clock didn't go off. I was going to be late for school.

I flung myself out of bed and ran down the hall to the bathroom. I hurriedly brushed my teeth and hair and put on deodorant. I carefully put my hair into a braid as I scurried back to my room. Then I hurried my closet and threw on a pair of jeans and a T-shirt. I grabbed some socks and my favorite pair of boots as I walked into the kitchen of my family's apartment.

My father smiled at me as I hurried in. He handed me a Pop Tart as he asked, "Slept in again, Kylie?"

"Yes," I sighed.

"I'll drive you to school. It is your eighteenth birthday after all," he smiled at me.

"Thanks dad. But don't you have to head into work today? Fury won't exactly be pleased if you're late," I said gratefully. I had completely forgotten that it was my birthday in my earlier rush to get ready.

"I know pumpkin. That's why I took the day off."

I smiled. It wasn't often that Nick Fury let dad stay home. His work required a lot of time away. I asked when I was six why he was never home. He told me the truth. It's not like being a SHIELD agent was something he could hide from his only daughter. Especially when the entire Avengers team showed up at our farmhouse when I was eight.

I realized that I didn't have my phone and quickly ran back to my room to grab it. I unplugged it from the charger. When I did, the screen lit up, revealing a message from my friend Peter:

Where are you?

I sighed. We normally met up outside of school before class starts. I quickly replied back as I headed back to the kitchen and my dad.

I woke up late.

Dad led me outside to his Acura NSX that Uncle Tony gave him. I still marveled at the technology of the car. I climbed in the passenger side and we sped off. Suddenly I heard my phone ding. I pulled it out of my pocket. Peter had replied.

Again? That's the third time this month, Lee.

"Who's that?" Dad asked as I typed a sassy reply.

Yes, again Peter. I seem to remember a certain science geek promised to come fix my alarm clock, but no dice.

"It's Peter. He's wondering where I am," I replied.

Dad smirked and I could tell he was going to tease me about him.

"Dad! I don't like him and he doesn't like me. We are just friends. Best friends," I insisted. I hated lying to Dad. But he always teased me about this and I didn't want Peter to know. The truth is I did have the tiniest of crushes on Peter Parker. But he was far from reciprocating. He was head over heels for Gwen Stacy, daughter of the deceased police chief.

Thankfully, just as I finished my rant, we pulled up to the school. Midtown High was the bane of my existence. This was my senior year and there were only a few weeks left. I was counting down the days.

"Bye Dad, love you. I'll see you when I get home," I said quickly. I kissed his cheek and climbed out of the car.

"Kylie," Dad said. I turned around. "Your aunts and uncles are coming over tonight to celebrate your birthday."

"Really?!" I shouted. I loved hanging out with Aunt Nat and all of the other Avengers.

"Yes, really," Dad chuckled. I squealed and walked towards the school.

"Bye Dad!" I yelled. He honked and drove away. I turned to see him leaving and then turned back to Midtown High. Waiting for me by the doors was Peter. He smiled as I approached him.

I held out one of my Pop Tarts to him as we walked through the doors of our high school.

"Hey, Lee," Peter said. "Happy Birthday."

"Thanks Pete," I answered with a smile.

"I got you a present, but I couldn't really bring it to school," he added. I raised an eyebrow. He couldn't do that and I knew it made him jealous.

"Oh really? And why is that?" I asked.

"You know I hate it when you do that. And if I told you why it would give it away. You'll just have to wait until after school when we go to our spot," Peter said with a smirk.

I pouted for a minute and then gave it up when I saw that Peter wasn't affected. We arrived at my locker, and I quickly spun the combination before pulling it open. I took my books out of my bag and put them in the locker.

As I put my math and science books into my book bag, I heard Gwen Stacy approach Peter.

"Hey Peter," Gwen said. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and clutched her textbooks closer to her chest. Peter spun around and quickly ran a hand through his hair.

"Oh, h-hi Gwen. What's up?" Peter stuttered. She giggled and smiled at him. I turned back to my locker and frowned in disappointment.

Listening to them flirt made me feel sick for some reason. Don't get me wrong, Gwen was one of the nicest girls I'd ever met, and she was one of my only friends. My reaction to their casual flirting made me worried. I was feeling way more jealous of Gwen than I normally do. Am I sick or something?

They continued to talk until the five minute warning bell rang. Seeing as Peter was still busy with Gwen, I closed my locker sadly and began to walk to homeroom.

I felt alone and abandoned because Peter was talking with Gwen and not me. Something was clearly wrong with me this morning. I heard footsteps behind me and turned my head to see Peter hurrying after me.

"Lee wait up!" Peter called. I slowed my steps until he was walking next to me again.

"Why'd you leave me?" he asked me.

"Well, you seemed occupied with Gwen, and I didn't want to interrupt you guys, so I left. I don't want to be late for anything else today," I replied. Where did that snippy reply come from? I was being so rude to him, and I really wanted to apologize but I didn't.

"Hey, are you okay? You seem upset," he asked with concern. No, I wanted to say. Something's off with me today. But I can't tell Peter that. It will only make him worry.

"I'm fine," I lied. I was at my homeroom so I turned to him and waved before going into the class and sitting down in my seat. I frowned. Something was definitely up with me today. I kept getting weird senses and feelings, and it was only eight in the morning. I sighed. If this trend continued, I was in for a long day.

Hey guys, hope you are enjoying the story so far! I'm sorry it's just filler for now, but these first few chapters are setting up all the major plot points throughout the story.
If you hadn't gotten it yet, this story starts right before The Amazing Spiderman 2. At this point, Spiderman's story takes place around 10 years after Age of Ultron. Just wanted to clarify the timeline to lessen confusion. Love,
Gingy
