women: an evolution

we were minorities in the past,
hushed and silenced for our gender,
taught that we always came in last,
that our lives didn't need the splendor.

laughed and labelled down as weak,
pushed around to serve man's word,
always told to never speak,
nice to see but never heard.

"leave the talking to the men.
your brains aren't ever even capable."
kicked to kitchen one again,
locked up to the dining table.

yet, little did they know in fact,
that wars weren't the one solution,
a woman's utterings were simply packed,
wise and well for execution.

we preached understanding and emotion,
believed peace was always open,
could've saved the world's commotions,
hadn't society have been broken.

still, we thrived well in this injustice,
joan d'arc still fought long and hard,
queen elizabeth ruled, forever restless,
florence nightingale never broke apart.

and now, here we are - we boldly stand,
our fingers typing up a storm,
thanked God we were given hands,
to ensure the world'll transform.

for evolution raised us fine,
and we're firm in our beliefs,
it's time to cross that slender line,
and embrace women's release.

for we are women, we are proud,
no longer shunned nor kept away,
try and find us in the crowd,
found us? yes, we're here to stay.
