We always joked about death, never did we think it would come so fast, one moment you're a four teen year old kid in Dublin, next you're on your wife's  death bed. It's no fun, the jokes were great, dark humor keeping us from our emotions; but the universe designed to exploit feelings and turn your brain to drink, fights and women. Halia was the greatest thing the universe created, she could undo negative feelings that had been building up for years. But her time came to quick; her freckled skin faded to a sickly pale with a bluish tint, the light behind her eyes faded to a solemn stare, never to blink again. Her curly brown hair grew dry and ridged, her life diminished, by the end of the week she wilted in to a memory.
My phone was vibrating like crazy in my jeans pocket, but I did not stir, my stomach hurt, but I did not move an inch from my position on the couch. My face was pressed into a pillow to try and dull the pain. It felt as though someone was grabbing my stomach, and twisting it around repeatedly. My head was spinning, my lips were dry as hell, I clutched my aching stomach and tried to stop the inevitable stream of puke that would make its way out of my mouth. "You okay, bean?" Halia asked standing in the doorway with a bucket, her hair pulled up into a ponytail, "oh I'm just perfect, never been better! In fact I may just say that this is the best morning I have ever had!" I said my voice teeming with sarcasm, she smiled "let's get you cleaned up" she said half dragging me half lifting me off the couch.
"Take your clothes off" she ordered while running the bath, "you could at least buy me dinner first" I said removing my clothes. "Im so done with you" She stated smiling at me. "Hi so done with you, I'm dad" I said shivering from the sudden loss of heat. I slipped into the warm bath, it's heat engulfing me, but the pain was not yet gone, "I'll be back in a moment with somethings for the pain" she announced as she dashed out the door. I sat there waiting awkwardly for around ten minutes, the steam rose from the bath making it difficult to see the blue tiled wall, I stared at the neon sign that said 'restroom' above the towel rack. Halia's footsteps startled me out of my starting, she handed me a mug, a tablet and a slice of ginger. I smelt the substance, it had a sent of Apple cider vinegar, I glanced up at her to ask 'what is this' before I took a sip, "it's a tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar and honey, you won't die don't worry" she said. I drank the mixture it's taste funny for a moment, but settled nicely. Once I had downed the drink I ate the ginger, it's earthy taste tickling my tongue, I made a face, to which Halia laughed at, ginger was disgusting.
Once I was all dried and out of the bath she lay next to me in bed, we said nothing just enjoying each others company. The pain was nearly all gone by now, I could breathe easy. I close my eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
