Prologue

I shivered as I cuddled up next to Steve. The crowd roared as our high school football team scored a touchdown. Steve placed his arm over my shoulder. I pull the blanket that the two of us share at football games further up, closer to my neck.

"There's only 5 minutes left on the game. Do you want to leave or stay?" Steve asked, realizing that I was cold. I know that if I tell him I want to leave, he'd be upset.

"I want to go home," I force through chattering teeth. "We can go to your place. Your p-parents are out of t-town for the weekend, right?"

"You know what Nancy, why don't you go home. I'll stay here because obviously you can't handle a few more minutes of a game. We never do what I wa-"

I stand up, yank my blanket away from him, and storm off. I fold the blanket loosely and start running. I run past the concession stand, then past the ticket booth, until I was suddenly laying on my back looking at the stars.

Sitting up slowly, I make eye contact with Jonathan, and he offers his hand to help me up.
