Chapter 44

JAY
"I ruin you, dirty slut!" I growl as Kyle pulls me into his room.

I'm going to start lots of rumors about Lia online, and she'll get upset about that.

Everyone will be against Lia, and she'll probably kill herself.

"What were you thinking?" Kyle asks sternly.

I break free and run into the hallway.

I grab my phone and the key and run into the bathroom, and look myself in once again.

I'm tired of this.

My life is going to be worthless after losing Lia.

Why did I do that?

My reflection in the mirror stares back at me.

Why did Lia ever love you?

I couldn't cope with losing her.

She was my everything.

Why did I hit her?

Just because she made me mad doesn't mean I should have hit her.

There's no way she'll take me back.

I turn on my phone, but stop when my lockscreen, a selfie of me and Lia, pops up.

I look through all of our pictures.

A picture I took of Lia laughing on the boardwalk, eating ice cream, popped up first.

Before I know it, tears are spilling out of my eyes.

"We can't ever let her see him again." I hear Yammy says.

I look at the shattered mirror.

I can't even imagine how much this will cost.

I was a terrible boyfriend.

I didn't comfort Lia when her friend died.

I was never there for her.

I can't share rumors about her online.

I'll make a new account, and start rumors about myself.

I look into the cracked mirror at my crying face.

I lost what mattered the most to me.

My dad is at work all day, and my mom is always out with her friends.

I don't even have any pets, let alone siblings.

Lia was like family to me.

All of a sudden, I hear a loud knock at the door.

"Your mom's here." Kyle says.

I swing the door open, not even caring about them seeing my tear stained cheeks.

My mom is standing at the doorway, a disappointed look on her face.

"Jay, why?" she asks.

The entire room is silent.

"Lia, can you explain what happened?" my mom asks.

"He accidentally opened the door when I was getting dressed and he apparently experienced sexual attraction, which is normal for his age. He hugged me and we fell into the bed. He took off my shirt, and it went from there. He eventually got to the point where I was only in panties and he was only in boxers." Lia says.

"It all just kinda happened..." I trail off.

"Well, you're never allowed to text Lia or message her or anything. Your phone is gone for 2 weeks. If I ever catch you trying to eat back together with her, we'll have a problem." my mom says.

"Bye guys." Yammy says.

"Before I go, I just wanted to say that Lia is the most beautiful girl in the world and I love her more than anything. I'll miss her. My life is broken. Bye Lia. I love you. To the moon and back. Always." I say, and we leave the house.
LIA
"Ok, are you ready to go eat?" Yammy asks.

"I'm not gonna come. It's girl time for you two." Kyle says.

"Yeah." I say.

We get into Yammy's car.

"What Jay said was really nice," Yammy says.

"Yeah." I say, on the verge of tears.

I guess Yammy read my mind.

"Don't be upset. Would you like it if we visited Lizzie in the hospital?" Yammy asks.

"Yeah!" my face lights up.

We pull into the parking lot of the hospital.

I limp out on my crutches.

"Hi, we're here to see Lizzie." Yammy says to the lady at the front desk.

"Come with me." the lady says, and leads us to Lizzie's room.

"Lia?" Lizzie croaks.

She's in bad condition, I can tell.

"Hey Liz! How you doing?" I ask, like an idiot.

"Well I can't do much, but we're lucky this accident didn't kill us." Lizzie says.

This was the same hospital where Amanda died.

I ignore that thought and give Lizzie a hug.

"So where are you girls going to eat?" Lizzie asks.

"Tina's Vegan Café. Lia's choice." Yammy says.

"That's great. Anyways I need to have some more work done soon." Lizzie says.

A doctor opens the door.

"Speak of the devil..." Yammy mumbles.

"You guys should probably get going. Lizzie here needs some medicine." he says.

"Bye Lizzie!" I say, and we leave the hospital.

We arrive at Tina's Vegan Café.

A familiar car pulls up next to us.

Joel.

"Why is Joel here?" I ask.

"Didn't Lizzie tell you?" Yammy looked confused.

"No!" I say.

"They got back together. Joel's coming here to apologize to you." Yammy says.

Visions of Joel screaming at me play in my mind.

The night I cut myself, and Lizzie and Joel got the fight.

It's all in the past now.

Joel opens his car door, and pulls me in for a hug.

"Lia, I'm so sorry. Lizzie told me that you are now clean and strong." Joel says.

All of a sudden, a Twitter notification goes off.

My jaw drops to the floor.

Now in Moments: 14 year old Jay Hatford found dead at a rest stop
