He stared at me blankly, as if trying desperately to process what to say. People around us started to notice too that he was talking to thin air. Yamada had come his way to me and knocked my shoulder gently.
"What's the matter?" Yamada asked me who was looking down at the ground below.
"Ah, no... It's, nothing." the guy replied instead, still with a confused expression on his face.
Yamada now realised what was happening and looked at the guy carefully. He gestured me to get up, as well as the guy. He motioned towards the tree just near us, invited the guy to come with him, and making me wait just far enough so I couldn't hear their conversation.
---
A moment later, they came back with normal expression on their face, as if telling me "It's alright, I've settled this." I smiled at the guy who was smiling at me. After that, we walked along the island, talking just about random stuffs about this island and the country. We didn't even bring up conversation about how the guy ended up discovering our existence. Later I found out that his name was Ken.
We were back on the ship in late afternoon to sail back to Hiroshima. We didn't talk much along the way. Now that I noticed it, Ken had started to act normal around us, as though we were old friends who just met each other after a very long time. He took us to a nice yakiniku restaurant and brought us to his apartment.
"I suppose we'll meet again tomorrow? Shall we?" asked Yamada after we talked for a few minutes in Ken's apartment.
Ken smiled at both of us and raised the last cup of tea.
"Sure, let's meet somewhere."
"Any suggestion?" Yamada looked at me, smiling awkwardly.
"Umm..how about Tokyo tower? We haven't visited that place!" I said excitedly, putting my hands on my hip, while they were both looking at me like I was a kid asking to be brought to Disneyland.
"That sounds about right." Ken smiled at me again, a wider one. I couldn't help but to think that he was just really attractive. He brought us to the door and we said good night to each other.
We left his apartment and headed to our house in silence. Yamada began to act weird again and I couldn't help but to ask him.
"Are you alright?" I said as we sat on the sofa, feeling tired of the long walk from the station.
"Yea, just a bit tired. I'm going to sleep. Good night." he replied quickly, sounding like he wasn't into anymore word or two.
He got up from his seat and headed straight to his room while I followed after him.
"Aren't you going to shower?!" I called out after him, making him stop on his way and turned at me.
He walked towards me until our face was facing each other really close. He made a weird smirk at me and moving even closer.
"What are you doing?" I said, feeling cornered.
"No, I'm not going to shower." he whispered in my ear while still making weird expression.
I just sat there in silence, as those words left warm sensation on my ears. I looked up and saw his back on me. Without realising, I made a little run and reached for him in my arms.
"You've been acting silly." I said, hugging him from behind.
"What are you talking about?" he let go of my hand and faced me. We were so close to each other yet again and I could feel his warm breath reaching me. I couldn't form any answer and he was making me anxious with his stare.
"Alright. Why is it that you really want to find the culprit?" he said firmly, placing his hands on my shoulder.
"I.."
I didn't know what to say.
He moved even closer and I stood there as if there was no way to escape. For a second I felt like warmness rushed into my brain. His lips were on mine as he held me in his arms. I still opened my eyes yet I felt paralysed there, I couldn't see what was happening. I quickly held myself back as soon as I realised what was happening, pushing him away.
Without saying anything, I left for my room.
