ever since we met, i've been more songbird than girl. you'rethe melody and we're slow dancing under streetlamps that we treat as a spotlight. it's so hard to write about you when the way you say my name sounds more like art than any line i've ever written. i used to always fall asleep to the sound of bees buzzing, but lately everything sounds more like waves crashing. when you fall in love on the west coast, everything that glitters really is gold. a tangerine sky, sea salt in the air, all that electricity crackling. i finally got to see what you look with cherry blossom petals on your shoulders and i've been holding my breath ever since. see, i was raised to believe in magic, so when i say you've got be spinning love poems faster than spiderwebs, i don't have a better word for it. i used to keep a knife under my tongue, and i know your bones are filled to the brim with winter, and neither of us know how to touch without looking for bruises like a reflex. i'm tired of sinking like a stone and you're the first thing that's made me want to learn how to stay afloat.
