sometimes cutting gets romanticized
but it's not what people see it as
cutting is not a black and white aesthetic photo
pretty sad girl with black hair
silently hopelessly slicing skin
cutting is not always neat lines on your wrist
beautiful contrast of blood on skin
girl with her head back in the bathtub
razor dangling loosely from fingers
pretty creature with too much eyeliner
and heavy metal band shirts
who sees no alternative but blood

cutting is a desperate girl in the shower
who tried to fight it but couldn't hold out forever
cutting is grabbing a razor with three blades
casually smiling at your roommate
right before you lock the bathroom door
cutting is desperate
the girl who laughs too much
frantic slashing at her thigh
because thighs are easier to hide
side to side fast and then slower
trying to drag out the pain
cutting is not an beautiful sadness
it's a desperate reality
