We stood there staring in each others eyes,
trying to rip apart the connected souls
our hearts beat in unison,
feel so vulnerable and exposed.
a perfect tear fell from your eye,
my lips quivered to soothe
I held my tongue and bit my lips,
or words might have betrayed
Knowing that our roads won't meet again,
it sinked my soul to my feet
Never to look in those pretty eyes again,
My heart burned at the thought.
I wished for you to not say a word,
or it will become more difficult than it already was,
You just ruffled my hair and hugged me,
I won't forget the feel of your kiss.
In a hurry you turned away,
as if trying to escape the moment,
I stand there memorizing your last glimpse,
till the city lights swallowed your shadows.
I whispered "goodbye"
and tears streamed down my face
I closed my eyes and breathed in
the last traces of your presence.

PoetrySadness is reality of every day. I was asked what inspired me to write this- My answer is some bad days and empathy, for I know I am not alone in this, and neither are you.
