Chapter 24: Smoke and Mirrors (Part Two)

"All I believe, is it a dream?

That comes crashing down on me?

Is it just smoke and mirrors?"

I got home around 30 minutes later. I parked the stolen car in front of the mansion, got out, and walked up the long driveway. The goons van, and J's lambo was there, so I know everyone was at home. I walked in the house and closed the door behind me. The mansion was very silent. I threw my shoes off and went up the stairs to the bedroom. When I got there, J was sitting on the bed with a knife in his hand. I walked past the bed, and changed from my dress, into regular clothes. After I was done, I was going to head to the bathroom.

"You're late." J said. Did he seriously just say that? I stopped in my tracks, and turned to face him. He got out of bed, put the knife onto the nearby table, and came towards me.

"You asshole... YOU LEAVE ME ALL ALONE THERE, AND YOU TELL ME THAT I'M 'LATE'!" I yelled, as J wrapped his hand around my neck, and pushed me against the wall.

"Careful doll face..." His eyes stared into my soul. "And if it wasn't for that STUPID ASSHOLE I COULD'VE CAME BACK FOR YOU!"

"That stupid asshole WAS MY BROTHER!"

"He tried to kill me." J's eyes became dark, and his grip on my neck tightened.

"But he didn't... I killed him." I choked out. J let go of me, but I still stood before him. "I fucking hate you... I hate you I HATE YOU!" I yelled, as J picked me up and slammed me onto the bed. The back of his hand connected with my face, and then he put a finger in my face.

"Don't you DARE yell at me again woman, or else I'll cut your tongue out and hand feed it to ya."

"I. Don't. Care. Do it." I said. "You never loved me, you never cared. I'm worthless to you... so go ahead J, but the day they come and capture me is the day you realize I was the best thing that happened to you." I spat.

"I do love you doll, but who are 'they'?"

"Get off of me."

"Who are 'they'?!"

"GET OFF OF ME!" I yelled, and J back hand slapped me for a second time.

"I'm not gonna ask ya again doll face."

"I-I don't know... all I know is that you work with 'em. Now get off of me."

"The penguin..."

"What?"

"The. Penguin. He's the only one I really work with, and the only one who'd do something like what you said." J got off of me and stood up. I sat up onto the bed holding my bruised face.

"Get me? Why me?"

"Because you're my..." He lowered his head.

"You're what?"

"Sanity... My love." He looked up at me.

"Good joke J... but I'm afraid you're lying. You proved that all tonight..."

"I'm not ly-"

"Yes you are... you always lie about everything. The 'love', the promise..."

"THEN IF I LIE ABOUT EVERYTHING, LEAVE! JUST GO! AND IF THIS SPECULATION OF 'THEY' COMING TO GET YOU IS TRUE, THEN I WON'T BE SAVING YOUR ASS!" J walked away, slamming the door behind him. I sat on the bed, alone, staring at the door.

Everything feels like a dream... My brother dying, J leaving me alone. I always feel like I will never be able to have happiness.I sat on the bed thinking about the promise J made me.

Flashback

"Now pumpkin... I'm gonna ask ya a question, and I want ya to answer me honestly." He said, as I nodded and sat up.

"I'm gonna make a promise to you that I will always be with you and make sure you'll never be harmed."

End flashback

I took of the ring J gave me, and stared at it.

"False advertisement." I said, as I threw the ring across the room. I fell back onto the bed and tears escaped my eyes.

What's a Bonnie without a Clyde?
