As I return to the main room I take a moment to observe the party goers.
Most of them are dancing along to the music that is being played through the stereo system. Others are standing around chatting.
I spot Marthe and Luke dancing together and smile. I hope they get together soon. They would make and adorable couple.
"Is that Joe?" Michael asks, pointing towards the far corner of the room.
Two figures are lurking in the dark crevice and I recognise the floppy mess that is Joe's hair.
I start pushing my way through the crowd and squinting to try and see what he is doing.
The other person has long, flowing, brunette hair and the two appear to be arguing.
I can't hear what they're saying over the music that is booming through the speakers.
At first I think it might be Zoe but this girl doesn't have the blonde tips on her hair that she does.
I am very sure it isn't Zoe when suddenly the girls lips are on Joe's.
My eyes widen as I watch. I can't tell if Joe is kissing the girl or not but I don't even want to know.
Joe is facing away from me so there is no way he has seen me here.
The girl pulls back from him and I watch in horror as she whispers in his ear.
Joe's head flicks around and he meets my eyes.
"Riley!" He says. His tone is strangled, like he is hurt. "I-it's not what it looks like."
"I think it's exactly what it looks like."
Before I know it I am turning on my heel and running as fast as I can in these stupid high heels.
I can hear a pair of footsteps behind me but I don't pay attention as I try to put as much distance between myself and that fucking party.
I'm probably overreacting. It's not like I haven't kissed anyone since we have been in a relationship. But that was different. I haven't kissed them back and I can't tell if Joe did. And it definitely didn't happen right in front of him.
"Stop following me Joe!" I yell over as I glance over my shoulder. Wait. That isn't Joe.
Unless he suddenly dyed his hair bright pink.
"It's not Joe. Can we stop running? I'm exhausted." Michael splutters.
I pull to a stop and collapse against the side of a building. Running is most definitely not my strong point.
"Why did you follow me?"
Michael slides down to the ground next to me.
"He knew you wouldn't want him to follow you. Couldn't very well let you run off on your own though."
"Oh." Is all I manage to say.
"I don't know of this'll help but Joe's a good guy." Michael says as he places his hand on mine.
"A good guy? A good guy wouldn't kiss another girl in front of his girlfriend. Why are you defending him anyway?"
Michael frowns, "I don't know. You two seem so happy together. It'd be a shame for you to break up."
I chuckle through the tears that are now spilling from my eyes, "You wouldn't care though, right? Everyone seems to think you have a thing for me." I say without thinking.
"They're right. But you shouldn't ruin your relationship over one kiss. It'd be wrong."
"You're strange Mikey."
