By the time Joe and I get off the phone it's already 5:00 pm and I can hear voices downstairs.
I sigh as I get up and open my suitcase, choosing something to wear and changing out of my travel clothes.
Apparently Zoe and Alfie didn't take the news of my departure very well and Zoe is pissed off that I didn't tell her.
I would have told them but I couldn't bring myself to do it. A part of me worried that they might guilt trip me into not leaving and I really could not deal with that. I feel really bad for not having the guts to tell them but I had to leave. I had to.
I sigh as I hear my mother call out to me. Time for the show to begin.
I smile as I walk down the stairs, greeted by my parents at the bottom.
Standing before them is a man, a woman and what I presume is their son.
My father looks to me and smiles, "Aurelia, this is Richard." he says, indicating the man. "His wife Michelle and their son William."
I nod. That would be right, all proper sounding names. "Nice to meet you all."
We exchange handshakes before my father clears his throat, bringing the attention back to himself.
"We have some business to attend to before dinner. Could you please keep William company while we are in the study?"
I sigh and nod, as much as I don't want to be here if I express that in front of these people I will surely suffer dire consequences.
The adults head off and I am left standing in the hallway with William.
He looks to be around my age, maybe a year younger, and wears an awkward smile as we stand there.
"Aurelia, huh?" he asks. I take note of the distinct American accent he has. Why the hell would they choose to move from America to New Zealand of all places?
I frown, "Don't call me that. It's Riley."
He smiles, "I know. You make YouTube videos, dating Joe Sugg. Aren't you supposed to be in LA right now?"
I shrug, I will not get used to people knowing who I am.
"Obviously I'm not William." I stress his name, he is probably just as stuck up as the rest of the people in this freaking house.
"Will." he corrects me, "Most people just call me Will."
I chuckle, "Well Will. Shall we get out of this hallway? I feel like the walls are going to close in on me."
He follows me without hesitation through the back door and into the garden. It's colder than I expected. I didn't really have a chance to prepare myself for the fact that it's actually winter here and I am only wearing a knee length dress and my shoes.
I shiver as I cross to the sleep out, pushing the sliding door open and stepping inside.
It smells musty, probably because it's likely no one has been in here since I first left six months ago.
I sigh as I grab the remote and turn the heat pump on. Sitting down on one of the leather couches I turn to Will as he sits across from me.
We sit there awkwardly for a moment before Will finally speaks up.
"What kind of name is Aurelia?" he asks.
I shrug, "What kind of name is William?"
He chuckles, "A name that can be shortened to Will. Aurelia and Riley don't seem to fit very well."
"Mum hates that name." I smile at how strange the word 'mum' sounds coming out of my mouth. I avoid using it usually, I don't know exactly why. Maybe because I always felt like she hadn't earnt the title, because she was never around much.
"Riley?"
"No. Aurelia. It was my Grandma's name, on my father's side. Apparently she was a total bitch or something."
"That's..." he hesitates for a moment, "Nice?"
I laugh, "Nice?"
He laughs as well and shrugs, "I don't know what I'm supposed to say."
I grin, "Generally, calling your grandma a bitch is not nice. Just for future reference."
He smiles, "Thanks. I'll try remember that."
After this, conversation seems to flow a bit easier.
I learn that his father moved them over here just last week for his work much to Will's mother's dislike. She didn't want to move at all but he got his way.
"So he lives up to his name then?" I ask.
"Richard?" he looks confused for a moment before he gets it.
"Richard. Dick. He is a dick."
He laughs, "I guess he does then."
The small talk continues for a few minutes until we are called down to dinner. My mother had been working on it on and off all day, and it showed. The meal was amazing, even though I only talked to Will.
After they went home, I helped clean the dishes and then went up to my room. I decide to call Joe again, and see if he can talk.
Joe's POV
Riley called me at the worst time. I was just sitting down to breakfast with Zoe and Alfie. I get up and tell them I need to take this, and to not worry about saving any food for me.
"Hello love, how was your last couple of hours?" I ask her, as soon as I pick up the phone.
"It was fine. I miss you already." She tells me. I can hear in her voice that she is telling the truth.
"I miss you too. I know it's only six months, but that's a long time to be away from your other half, the person that completes you. I just want to be able to be there next to you when you wake up, and kiss you goodnight." I cooed.
We talk for a few more minutes before Riley falls asleep. So, I hang up and go back to the table, where Zoe and Alfie are awaiting an explanation for my sudden disappearance.
