Remember When

Chapter 16

Harry leans against the doorway to Jackie's office and watches her as she sits reading one of the many law books stacked on her desk, he's not sure what she's looking for but by the half grin on her beautiful lips can tell him she's found it. Tapping on the doorframe to get her attention Harry steps the rest of the way into Jackie's office.
"You about done here?" He asks as he leans against her desk, beside where she's sitting. "Your doctor's appointment is in thirty minutes."

Jackie grabs a post-it note sticks it to the page she's reading, closes the book and puts in on the top of the stack on her desk. She then opens the bottom drawer grabs her purse and stands up. "Yep, I'm ready." Jackie says as she grabs Harry's hand." Are you ready to find out if you're going to be a daddy or not?"

Harry pulls Jackie between his legs, putting his hands on her hips. "As long as you're the mommy I'm ready for anything." He whispers. "Our wedding is just a few weeks away, this is, if we find you are pregnant, is a happy bonus as far as I'm concerned."

"I agree." Jackie says, placing her hands on Harry's waist. "I hope I am pregnant, I can't wait to feel our child moving and kicking around inside me."

Harry buries his face in Jackie's neck to hide the tears in his eyes. "God you're going to be so beautiful once you start showing, getting big with my baby growing in there." Harry chokes out as he places his large hand on Jackie's lower abdomen.

"I love you. Now let's go, so we can find out if we have a reason for these tears." Jackie smiles as she wipes hers away.

"Love you too." Harry replies as he wipes away his own tears. When they get to the doctor's office, Harry holds the door open for Jackie to walk in ahead of him, when he walks in behind her all the other women there smile when they see them together. By now the town and the people in it, old and new, are used to seeing Harry and Jackie together, unless Harry's on duty.

Jackie walks to the reception window, signs in, hands Ashley her insurance information to get copies of, and waits for directions. "Jackie, mom wants you and Harry to go on back." Ashley says, she then leans forward and whispers with a smile. "When she saw your name on the roster for today I think she about had a cow." Ashley chuckles. "She's so excited she could burst."

Jackie smiles. "That's what happens when you know everyone in the town you live in." Jackie says. "How's Lana doing, she's about ready to give birth isn't she?" Jackie asks as she motions for Harry to follow her and Ashley, Lana's younger sister, to an exam room in the back.

"Hey Harry." Ashley nods. "Yeah, she's only got maybe a week left, if that, mom and Nick fusses at her all the time for about everything she does. She just laughs at them though, she's been through this before, hell she and Nick have three kids already." Ashley chuckles.

Harry puts one hand on Jackie's shoulder. "And if I remember correctly they both constantly fussed at her about taking it easy during those pregnancies also." He says as the walk into the exam room.

"You remember right." Ashley says. "Mom will be in soon. Good luck." Ashley says, hugging both Harry and Jackie, handing Jackie a gown to put on.

Jackie looks at the thin hospital like gown she's supposed to put on. "How am I supposed to stay warm in this thin thing, it's cold as hell in here." She's says as she takes her jacket off, then starts undressing.

Harry takes each item of clothing and folds them as Jackie hands them to him, when she's completely bare and in the thin gown, he walks to her, sits on the exam table, then pulls her into his lap and wraps his arms around her. "You, my dear, should know by now I'll do anything in my power to keep you safe and warm." Harry says. "You know I have plenty of body heat to share and I'm more than willing to be your heating blanket."

Jackie grins as she wraps her arms around Harry's waist, and under his jacket he's still wearing. "One of the many things I so love about you, being able to snuggle up to you, no matter where we are, and know you'll keep me warm and safe from harm." Jackie says kissing Harry's neck, just as the door opens.

"Why am I not surprised." Dr. Jones says with a smile, seeing Jackie and Harry sitting as they are. "You do know once that child is born, if you're pregnant, this will have to stop don't you? One of you will have the child in your lap."

"Never." Harry says. "Jack will have Jr. in her lap and I'll have both of them in mine, problem solved." He smirks.

"For now." Dr. Jones chuckles. "Now put her on the table so I can do my job. You can stand over there." She points.
Harry does as he's told and holds Jackie's hand during the entire examination. When Sarah was done she opens the door and pulls a cart in the room. "Okay, kiddos before you ask I'll explain what's going on. Jackie, you are pregnant." Sarah says, smiling when she sees the reaction that announcement gets. "This machine here will tell me how big the fetus is, exactly how far along you are so I can better pinpoint a due date." She says as she squirts some gel on Jackie's lower belly, then runs the wands around, when they hear this whoshing sound she stops. "Guys, that's your baby's heart beat."

Jackie looks up at Harry as tears stream into her hair. "Oh God, Harry."

Harry leans over and kisses Jackie. "Shh, I know." He chokes out.

Blinking several times Dr. Jones points to the screen. "Look, there's your bab." She stops, leans forward, frowning.

Harry looks at Sarah. "What's wrong?"

Sarah turns and looks at the the couple, she then grins. "Twins, you two are having twins."

Jackie's eyes widen as she looks at Harry, she could feel the doctor cleaning the gel off her belly, and pull the gown down. "Two? Holy hell, Harry we're having two babies."

Harry just stares at Jackie, it was almost like he's forgot how to talk, then he feels her tiny hand in his and he bursts into tears. "Oh God, we're having twins." Harry sobs. "Jack I love you so much."
