Saudade

Saudade is a Portuguese word that describes 'missing someone or something or feeling nostalgic".
It's one of the hardest words to translate in a lot of languages, I' ve been told.

I miss the time back when I was just a child
I miss my friends from primary school
I remember when we run after each others all the breaks
I miss the time back when I was wild

Kids aren't allowed after 10
We got to study
We got to make our own future
We got to 'be a man'

Now I'm wondering why I didn't make those times long last
Why did I always wanted to grow up?
I guess we all had great times back then
Why didn't we all made them last?

Now it's all about going on and on
And on
I don't want to grow up no more
They say life is just like that and we have to move on

I have saudades of not being here
Wherever I am
I have saudades of playing hide 'n seek
I have saudades of crying in the end of the school year

Memories are made of this, aren't they?
Pieces of us covered with dust
If we were metal saudades would be the rust
Memories are just like this, aren't they?

Sadly I'm not a speedster and I can't time travel
So I guess I should stop being nostalgic
And think about my future
I want to travel

I guess I can't say
That I miss times where I
Was truly happy...

But what is happiness anyway?
