"That was really cool, you know," he smiled, "asking him out. Not him specifically— he's a jerk. I just mean, I don't have the guts ask anyone out, and it seems like it would be tougher for girls, so, kudos."

"Kudos?"

"Yeah, you know it's the Greek word for—"

"Whatever," she sighed. She picked up her newest read, Room.

He noticed the tension. "Touchy subject?"

"Mhm."

"Sorry."

They didn't talk at all after that for a few days.
