She still engaged in almost one-sided conversations with him, but kept him at a distance.
He quickly realized he'd pushed too hard. Eventually, he gave up talking to her at all, until one day almost three weeks later.
"You didn't mean it."
"Mean what?" He asked.
"To be rude," she said. "You were just curious. I know that now."
He smiled. "Thanks." He paused. "So, friends?"
"I guess that isn't a bad idea."
