Chapter 10 - Tomlinson

When we arrive at the party I look everywhere for Robin. As lame as that sounds, no shame, mate. The bar is small, it shouldn’t be this hard to find her, but she’s nowhere to be found. Maybe we’re too early.

“Mate, quit it. You look desperate. She’ll be here and you won’t let her go and yada yada,” Harry says punching me on the arm. “Let’s go for some drinks and when she arrives, you’ll see her.”

I don’t say anything, I just follow him to the bar and we ask for some beers. All the players are already here, celebrating, shouting and smashing things. Okay, not at that level but close enough. They slam their cups to the tables and bar. We’re all excited that we won our first match and yes, I get many congratulations for that goal I scored.

It feels great, I must admit it, to be recognised. Having people telling me I had a great game, that I smashed it. I can totally get used to this. And Harry is enjoying the attention as well, because many girls approach and talk to us, and of course he charms his way through.

I constantly turn around, hoping to see her walking through the door and towards me. Maybe she won’t come in the end. I’m not sure, but that possibility makes me lose all my interest on staying at this party. Yeah, I am delighted that we won, that I scored the goal that gave us that victory… but it’s not as sweet if she’s not here.

“Hey there,” I hear someone and my head snaps. I turn to my right, where Harry used to be —when did he leave?—, just to see Robin there, smiling at me happily. “Jamie had a fashion crisis.”

Oh. So that’s why she took so long. “I’m glad you came,” I tell her. “Can I buy you anything?” I offer immediately, hoping I’ll stay by her side the whole night. Just having her here makes the night ten times better, this whole celebration.

“Why yes, please,” she replies with her beautiful smile that turns a bit cheeky and I just adore that, it gives me this weird feeling in my guts and at the back of my mind I see Harry shaking his head at how lame and pathetic I am.

I’m definitely crazy for this girl.

So I ask for another beer for me, and a mojito for Robin and we start a small talk. I must admit I still get a bit nervous around her. How wouldn’t I? She’s just the girl I’ve had a crush on for so long, that girl I longed to notice me for so long. She’s the girl who makes me feel like a shy and awkward teenager all over again. I don’t know what her power is, but she just leaves me defenceless.

But as we start to get more alcohol, we loosen up. We start laughing and talking about so many other things. We joke and get loud. And she starts to get more extroverted, as well and I’m not that nervous anymore.

By midnight I’m just a bit tipsy but I notice she’s a lightweight and she’s fairly drunk, but she’s still okay. I notice this because I’m not the one who asks her to dance, she just stands and grabs my hands, pulling me out of my stool.

“You. Me. Dancing!” She cheers and I can’t complain, I just follow her to the improvised dance floor.

There are some other couples dancing whilst the music is blasting and as soon as we find a spot for us, she stops and pulls me a bit closer, her arms around my neck and my hands automatically go to her waist, keeping her close, keeping her safe next to me.

Again, I’m not complaining that she’s doing this.

The song playing is a pop tune that I don’t really know it but recognise it, I’ve heard it before and it always makes the clientele scream and more couples approach to dance. Robin also gets excited and starts dancing, still very close to me. And I follow her.
