Chapter Nine: University of Everywhere
The next week begins awkwardly Monday sees Chad and Ellie in the middle of the biggest fight in history. On Wednesday however everything changes because Tuesday is the day the letters arrived. My parents are still in Queensland and Junior is still staying at mine. The moment the boys and I walked through the front door the phone was ringing.
"Hello?"
"Oh my god Jay, guess what"
"Elle? What?"
"Nida, Jay!"
"Who?"
"N.I.D.A you know the performing arts university in Sydney. I got in!"
"Ellie that is awesome!"
"I'm so excited anyway I got to go I'll see you tomorrow"
"Ok bye Elle"
"Bye"
The two of us hang up and I relay our conversation to the boys.
"I think you might have your own exciting news babe" Junior says holding out three envelopes.
"Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god" I say grabbing them off him and jumping on to the lounge.
I rip open the envelopes one at a time. It takes a while for the first one to sink in.
The first was from the University of Melbourne;
To Miss Jayleigh Whitmore,
We are please to inform you that your name has been put forward for the Dean Hinkler Scholarship. This is a full academic scholarship for you to study a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Science.
The second was from the University of Newcastle;
To Miss Jayleigh Whitmore,
We are writing to inform you are successful in receiving the Faculty of Social Sciences Legal Studies Scholarship. This is a part academic scholarship for you to study a Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Arts.
The third and most inviting was from the University of Queensland;
To Miss Jayleigh Whitmore,
We would like to congratulate you for receiving the Dean's Award Full Academic Scholarship. With this scholarship you are free to study anything in the fields of Law, Science or Arts.
"Oh my god! Look at this" I say throwing a letter to each of the boys.
"Jay this is brilliant" Mark says, "but what will you pick?"
"No argument, the University of Queensland"
"Sounds like you have a plan," Jackson comments.
"Well I think we should celebrate this good news, how does pizza sound?"
"Great, thanks Mark"
The four of us enjoy our pizza, watch TV and do a small amount of homework before heading off to bed. I'm already in bed by the time Junior comes in.
"So Uni of Queensland huh?" he says coming over to the bed.
"Yeah. Well I know it is a far way away but they've got exactly what I want and the scholarship I got they only offer like two a year so..."
