Chapter Thirty-Four

You hold your hands in front of you, biting your lip a little, your heart beating quickly. You don't know why Newt changed his mind about you, but he did, and you're grateful. Maybe it had something to do with Maria.
You walk forward, over to the desk, shifting your weight from one foot to the other, back and forth, "Hello, I'm Y/N." the words exit in a slight whisper, your nerves clearly showing.
The man behind the desk raises an eyebrow, "okay."
"Oh, right," you blush slightly. "I'm visiting Newt.. no I mean, Newton, um..."
"You don't know his last name?" He raises an eyebrow.
"N..no.." You stammer sheepishly.
He chuckles a little, "don't worry, I have a feeling I know who you mean. I'll have him come to meet you." He gestures for you to take a seat.
Frowning a little, you sit down in the waiting room. Maria had told you he could barely make it to the canteen four doors away, so surely he wouldn't be able to make it to the other side of the hospital?
Soon afterwards, a tall boy walks in. His arm is in a sling. His black hair is spiky, pointing in random directions messily, and his eyes are a baby blue. He glances to the man behind the desk, who gestures to you.
He looks confused, but walks over anyway, "uh.. hi."
"Who are you?"
"Newton Mackentyreart, but no one ever remembers my last name so, I'm Newt. Who are you?" The boy answers.
Ohhhhh.
"I.." You blush madly. "Um, I'm Y/N, but I came here to visit another Newt. The guy at the desk..."
Newt 2 laughs a little, "He always gets muddled, don't mind him. C'mon." He gestures for you to follow before strolling over to DeskMan.
You follow, fiddling with a strand of your hair awkwardly.
"Jeff, you got it wrong again," Newt 2 shrugs. "It's the other Newt."
DeskMan/'Jeff' sighs, "oh, right, well..."
"Don't worry, I'll take her," Newt 2 shrugs.
DeskMan smiles at Newt 2, "Thanks."
Newt 2 smiles back and put his hand on your shoulder, steering you through the door he'd emerged from. He herds you like a sheep down several corridors and into the elevator/lift.
He selects floor three. You stand in silence beside him.
"So. I haven't seen you before. Haven't you visited him before?" He asks.
You shake your head, "he, um.. didn't want to see me."
"What made him change his mind?"
You fall silent. The truth is you have no idea.
He glances at you thoughtfully, before the lift doors open. He walks beside you and stops outside a door labelled 'Newton Isaac, #213, 'Newt''.
"Good luck," Newt 2 smiles before walking off.
Should you go in? Are you even ready to face him again? Before you can answer those questions the door opens and a nurse smiles at you.
"Hello, Y/N," She smiles.
You smile back nervously, "Hey, Maria." You'd recognised the voice immediately.
Maria steps back to let you in and you pass her.
Newt looks so vulnerable in his hospitalised state. Looking at him in pain makes you want to hug him right there and then.
He forces a small shy smile, "hey." He murmurs. You notice his hands shaking slightly. He was nervous too.
"Hey," You reply quietly. "How are you feeling?"
"Better," He nods a little.
Out of the corner of my eye you see Maria give him a comforting smile before saying, "well I'm going to go and get my lunch. You two want anything?"
"No, thanks," you smile to her.
She nods and exits.
"So," Newt says quietly.
"I.. Newt, I'm so sorry I upset you," you say nervously, slight tears forming in your eyes. "But you have to believe me when I say that I love you. I'd never cheat on you. Gally-"
"I'm sorry, too." He sighs. "I shouldn't have overreacted. Since I talked to Maria I realised it probably wasn't you... I just felt so stupid for thinking that and I was nervous to face you."
You smile a little.
He smiles back. Then he moves over and pats the space on the bed beside him.
You obediently sit down, and lean into him as he wraps an arm around your shoulders.
"I love you, Y/N," Newt murmurs.
"I love you too."
