Hae Mi didn't care if she looked like an absolute pig in front of BTS. She downed her beef flavored ramen and an entire bag of her favorite seaweed chips before finally satisfying her hunger. The entire time she ate V, J-Hope, and RM took a sincere interest in getting to know their new assistant dance director. Jimin sat on the couch with Suga and Jungkook as the two attempted to beat V and Jungkook's impressive high scores on Overwatch.
"What made you decide to find a job in Korea?" RM had asked as she polished off her seaweed chips.
Hae Mi tried to keep her gaze from flitting over to Jimin. In her peripheral vision, she watched as he shifted slightly, drawing closer to hear what she had to say. "There were a couple of reasons if I'm being honest. The main issue was my visa was expiring soon and I was waiting too long to renew it." TMI much, Hae Mi? "Also, I was beginning to miss Korea... And, as you know, America isn't the greatest place for an Asian to try to find work in the performance industry. I was lucky to have the dance career that I did, but it definitely didn't come without the price of negativity."
"Ahh, so you're the one Jimin was always secretly watching recordings of," V teased.
I peered over RM's shoulder, gaze nailing Jimin's suddenly still form. "Was he now?"
Jimin made no comment, staring more intently at the game on the television screen.
Hae Mi attempted to make the situation better, for Jimin's sake. "I mean, I was pretty accessible on the internet. I did have a YouTube channel--"
"That's where I know you from!" J-Hope interrupted. "I've seen your channel before. I'm pretty sure you performed 'Boy Meets Evil' better than I ever did."
Hae Mi grew flustered at the comment. It was well known that he would often take to the internet to watch reaction videos and covers of BTS's songs. But, J-Hope watching her videos? That was something she hadn't prepared for.
"She performed it better than you, Ho Seok?" RM raised an eyebrow at that. "Should we test her and see how she does?"
Hae Mi waved her hands out in front of her. "Oh no, I couldn't. There isn't enough space in here, anyway."
Suga approached from the couch, finally taking interest in the conversation at hand. "Good thing we have access to the rooftop space."
Jungkook and Jimin joined the others in the kitchen area, making it feel more cramped and tiny than it already was. V and J-Hope, giggling, were quick to gather together their speaker and usher everyone out the door and to the elevator. Hae Mi found herself pressed close against Jimin's side within the tiny box of an elevator as they traveled to the twentieth floor. She felt every hitch of his breath as his arm brushed against her side. What's happening right now?
Their golden maknae led the charge to the roof, eager to see the challenge unfold. Hae Mi stayed away from the sides of the roof - she had an inherent fear of heights - but marveled at the wide space. Someone had attempted to build a community garden up here. Pots of perennials, vegetables, and more stood sentinel along the edges of the area, decorating the evergreen paint that coated the roof. With the sun having set hours ago, the lights of the city and a few security lights were the only things illuminating their temporary stage.
J-Hope and Hae Mi stretched out their limbs, eyeing each other playfully as they prepared to dance to defend their pride. But, in the end, it was J-Hope that had triggered this event, so Hae Mi wasn't worried about who won or lost. She was just worried about passing BTS's high level of expectations. Jin and Jungkook fooled around with the speaker, arguing over who's playlist should play as the two dancers warmed up.
