Sinclair sat beside Josephine once again as she slept. For the last three days, she'd been submerged in a bout of melancholy that prevented her from eating or dressing or leaving the confines of their room.
He enlisted Fin on multiple occasions to try and brighten her dark mood, but nothing seemed to fix it. He could see the light he so loved fading from her eyes with every passing day. He could see the pain in her heart, and he had been so brutally blunt that he knew he caused this.
The entire pack was stiff and rigid, awaiting the Valkyrie who would inevitably come. Sinclair would not allow them to whisk Josie away so quickly. He'd just gotten her, dammit to hell if he was going to lose her.
"Josephine, would you like to go for a trip around the gardens?" He asked as he crouched beside the lump on the bed. Underneath the comforter was Josie, who refused to acknowledge his presence. "Josephine you need sunlight, people are beginning to believe you are transitioning into a Vampyr, not a Fey."
His joke was not received well.
"Come one little doe at least rise and take a shower." He said, and when she didn't move, he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Rise and shower, or I'll be forced to take matters into my own hands."
He caught a glimpse of her eyes peeking open. There was a challenge and a question in those two swirling pools of blue, "You wouldn't dare" and "Would you dare?" mixed into one look.
"Oh aye, little doe. We both know I'd dare." He said, and when she didn't move, he sighed and pulled the comforter of her wee body. Josie curled into a ball and shouted in protest. He lifted her up into his arms and over his shoulders much like when they first met.
Josie's heart raced, and she wasn't entirely sure it was from fear. She shouted and pounded on his back, but it was like punching a brick wall. "Let me go! You can't keep doing this! I'm not a sack of potatoes!"
"Potatoes?" He questioned and paused. Releasing a laugh, he shook his head, "If you speak of the stereotype it is the Irish humans who enjoy potatoes."
Josie shouted in frustration, "It's a saying! A phrase! To be thrown over someone's shoulders like a sack of potatoes? It's not my fault you don't know the phrase, don't try and make me sound dumb!"
"I wouldn't dream about it, doe." He said and set her on the side of the tub and turned the water on. "Now strip."
"Not this again."
"I promise I won't touch you, but you need to bathe yourself. I assumed you would like to relax as well in this bath." Sinclair suggested, and the irritated look in her eyes made him smile, he was right.
"It's not like I could ever relax butt naked with a guy who obviously wants to jump my bones twenty-four-seven." She said and crossed her arms over her chest. Her breasts pushed together and were beautifully displayed with her angry position and V-neck nightshirt. "Oh for Pete's sake! My eyes are up here!"
"I'm well aware of that, but your breasts seem to pool from-"
"That's enough, bagpipes, get out so I can change." She angrily demanded and his eyebrow raised in question.
"Bagpipes?"
"If you don't get the insult then that's on you, now skoot!" She grumbled with a huff and Sinclair grinned. He leaned in suddenly, his hand at the small of her back so she wouldn't lean too far over the tub and fall in.
"Are you feeling better, little doe?" He asked, lips hovering over hers. "You seem more alive."
"Yes, well, it seems that apparently, it'll take a lot to kill me since I'm immortal so I will 'seem alive' for eternity, right?" She asked bitterly, but her words were weak and feeble as she looked up at him nervously.
