The next morning Daphne stayed in bed while Helena went on a date with Thomas. She was still processing everything that had happened the night before. She decided to take a long hot bath to clean her head mostly. When Helena returned, Daphne was still taking a bath while listening to music.
"Daphne I'm back." She sat in bed and heard some noises from the bathroom.
"Well, how was it? Tell me everything." She sat next to her.
"Best date ever. I can't believe I had so much fun."
"Where did you go?"
"We grabbed some coffee from his favourite place and strolled around the city." She smiled at the thought and lied in bed. "The city was more beautiful than yesterday. I'm not going to lie. He was good company."
"Hey I'm good company too." They laughed and Daphne lied next to her. "What happened next?"
"We talked. We talked a lot about everything. He's studying in Madrid and is spending his summer in Barcelona working. He seems and I think he is a good guy. Too bad we're leaving Barcelona today."
"I'm sorry. You seem to really like him." Daphne hugged her.
"No worries I got his number and we'll stay in touch. I'm not letting him go." They laughed again. "Did you really stayed here all morning?" She looked at her.
"Um yes. And I'm starving. So we'd better grab some food before going to the airport." Daphne started getting dressed and after a while they left the pension. They stopped at McDonalds and ate.
"So did you have fun last night, after i left?" Helena took a bite from her cheeseburger.
Daphne took a minute to decide if she should say anything and chewed her food. Then she replied: "I drank a bit more and danced. That was all."
"It's better than nothing but we still have a lot of work to do with you?"The girls chatted some more about many things and Helena stated that they both needed a summer affair. "How are we going to feel the summer and get to know Madrid's civilisation, if we don't find a Spanish cutie to guide us around?"
"You're out of your mind." Daphne replied.
"But why? Is it so hard not to catch feelings?"
"Well it sure as hell is tough."
"Oh girl you just need to not let it get to your head. Like if you always find something negative, you'll be fine. The situation will turn you off."
"But honey... Have you seen the Spanish? How could they turn me off?"
"True that, but the fact that you're only staying for the summer is a turn off. Boom here's your turn off."
"Okay here's my turn off. I got it." they both laughed.
After landing to Madrid, exhaustion had taken over them.
"It was good being spotaneous but let's not do that again. I'm tired." Helena complained and Daphne just laughed as the both went to bed.The next morning they woke up early and they felt fresh. They wondering what they should do that day and they decided that they could stroll around and blend with the crowd. That would also be efficient for Helena.
Helena was studying journalism and she wanted to write an article about their trip. Since she was little, she was dreaming about writing her own stories for everyone to enjoy. Her imagination was vivid. She had understand that her writing skills were a gift and she could not stop thinking how she could use them to express herself."What if i make up a story for some strangers we'll see today? And then i can make a book with them." she excitedly said.
"That sounds a little creepy but since i get to walk around Madrid, I'm not complaining."
"Okay, meet me downstairs in 5 minutes."
"It's a date."Daphne wore a casual floral dress with a pair of sandals and braided her hair. She felt like a real tourist. In five minutes, she was ready and met Helena in the small cafe, which was located just across the street. They walked around for some minutes when Helena spotted a couple worth writing about. they were sitting in a bench, talking and touching each other's arms. They were definitely in love. Everyone around them could tell that. Helena was taking some notes. She wrote that they were tourists. They were so in love and the guy was planning to propose to her that night. She could see in his eyes the love and lust. It was really beautiful.
They walked some more, when Helena stopped again. This time an old man caught her eye. He was buying a bucket of white lilies.
"Apart from the charm and beauty that white lily possesses, it's also the best way to convey the message of having the feeling of being in heaven with someone or in more contemporary times its called "in cloud 9". Even with its huge pistil, the white lily is the epitome of beauty. Based on a Roman legend, it was Venus who made this pistil grow from the lily's center. Jealous of the beauty the lily has, she decided to mar its "perfection" with a huge pistil."
She wrote on the notebook that he was buying them for his long-term wife. They probably had an anniversary that day and he wanted to express his love and his appreciation to her, because no matter how many years go by she'll still mean the world to him. His happiness, his love, his heaven.
Walking a little further there were many kids, boys and girls, playing football or hide and seek, eating ice cream, talking, laughing, fighting.. Helena was writing intensely. All these children having fun and enjoying their summer with their friends, living in the moment.. It was a beautiful view. Daphne wondered how much she had changed through the years. She was so caught up in school and studying, she hadn't lived her life the past years. She had to change that.
Just some meters away from the children, there was a girl. They coudn't tell if she was crying but she definitely was really sad. They took some steps closer. Helena noted that this beautiful girl had fought with her boyfriend and walked out of him. Suddenly a boy approached her with a rose in her hand. she smiled widely when she saw him and she hugged him. The girls smiled.
"If think we're okay for now. Lunch?" Helena asked.
"Lunch it is."Helena and Daphne talked some more about Helena's book and then returned to the pension.
"Should we watch a movie?" Daphne suggested.
"If it's a thriller, i'm in."
They watched a thriller, and called it a night early.A new morning had came. A bright new start.
"What are we doing today?" Daphne handed a cup of coffee to Helena.
"I think i'm staying in. I feel creative and productive. I'll start writing my book."
"oh that means i'm going somewhere alone." Daphne pouted but Helena was too absorbed in her laptop to see her.
"Why don't you go to Vicente Calderon today?" Daphne tought about it for a minute.
"Yes that's what i'm going to do." she jumped off bed and started getting ready.(A/N: We're getting closer and closer..
Have a nice week. Don't forget you're beautiful, smart and deserve the world. )
