Tug of War

When I take a step closer,
you take two steps backwards.
We're always in a game of tug of war.
You're on the opposite side
I'm on the other end.
There is quite a huge gap,
a distance in between.

I want to eliminate the gap,
the distance,
the improbability
Thus, I'm holding the rope tightly with both hands
Hoping I could finally pull you towards me this time
And welcome you delicately in my arms
As if you've finally found your home,
But you were adamant
You keep on pulling yourself back so you could stay in place.
So in the end, I chose to submit myself to you instead.
I loosened my grip off the rope
And allowed you to pull me forward with no inhibitions at all
Because even though I might end up
With burnt hands and muddy knees,
I'd rather get myself bruised just so I can have you near, within my reach.
