Last Leaf

It was that time of the year
Whence everything wilts and falls
Down to the cold soil of the earth
I saw a one green leaf
In a one brown branch
Standing strong and proud
Outside of my window

I continued staring at it
Although my eyes began to droop
I saw myself in that one green leaf
My young and vibrant self
Green and lively
But just like everything that is living
We're both just temporary.

I sighed as it got swayed by the wind
Afraid of getting detached from the branch
I prayed for it to last even just for another day
I memorized the way it looks
And let the beauty of it
Streak to my vision
Linger in my memory
And
Bury to the depth of my soul

Cause that
One green leaf
In a one brown branch
A masterpiece through my window
Is a symbol of my one last chance

But I know when
the seasons changed again
Everything that was broken
Will get renewed for certain
But that one green leaf
In that one brown branch
Will eventually make its way down
To the soil of the earth
Its existence will go into oblivion
Like it was never there
Like it never existed
Like it was just a passing memory
Not worth to be remembered.

My heart squeezes heavily
As the leaf begins to get blown away
I hold onto anything I can hold
Cause
That one last leaf
Is myself that is about to leave.
