jimin

"thank you, enjoy!" i called cheerfully to the customer. i sighed, shutting the register. my shift at the bookstore was almost over.

i was just about to start packing up my things when the door chimed loudly, echoing throughout the shop. my best friend jungkook had just walked in, a small smile on his face. "jimin hyung! you almost off? i need your help."

chuckling, i rolled my eyes. "i have about five minutes left. what is it, kook?" he walked up to the counter where i stood, chewing on his chapped lips. while i put my things back in my bag, he drummed his fingers on the countertop. i raised an eyebrow as i watched him shift his weight onto his other leg, awkwardly avoiding my gaze.

this was odd for me to see. jungkook was the kind of person every introvert wished they could be. he was friendly, confident, and persuasive. he had no problem pointing out something incorrect or something that could be fixed, whether it be on homework, someone's makeup, or an outfit. he liked to have a say in just about everything. sometimes it could get annoying, like when he constantly teased me for my height, but i knew he meant well and was always sure to put him in his place if he got out of hand.

the funny thing was that jungkook wasn't always a huge extrovert; he had in fact been super shy when i first met him. he didn't know how to make friends because he'd never had to. but now he was practically friends with everybody, and you'd never know he used to be too scared to order a drink himself.

jungkook dramatically sighed. "i need you to come shopping with me."

i noticed jonghyun, who was taking the next shift, come in. i waved at him as he made his way to the counter. now that he was here, i could leave.

i scoffed at jungkook, walking around the counter to the other side. "as if that's a problem. why are you so worked up over going shopping? usually you're ecstatic to have an excuse to go blow your giant allowance."

my best friend glared at me with his dark brown eyes. "shut up. the problem, my dear hyung," he said, holding open the heavy doors of the bookstore for me, "is that i'm not shopping for fun. i have a interview, and i don't know what to do. you have a job, so i came to you."

i clapped my hands, a huge grin spreading across my face. "the prestigious and elite jeon jungkook is finally stepping down and getting a job? how common of him!" i cackled, entirely amused at the idea of my best friend, who had been given nearly everything on a silver platter since he was in diapers, getting a job. he, thankfully, had never become too egotistical and instead used his wealth to benefit the people he cared about.

which meant that i got pretty awesome birthday gifts. not that i took advantage of him, or anything. it was just a cool perk to being friends with the brat.

jungkook rolled his eyes at me, as we walked down the streets of busan. he cast his gaze downwards, looking at our shoes. "my parents just told me that they aren't going to pay for me to go to university. so, i need to start saving if i'm even going to school at all." the smile dropped off my face at his change in tone; he sounded so hopeless, making me feel horrible for laughing earlier.

"oh, kook, i'm sorry, that sucks." he chewed his lip, looking down as we walked. "don't worry," i tried to cheer him up, "we're going to get you that job. you'll ace this interview. where is it?"

"you know the cafe down the street from your place?"

"hey! now you can get me free sweets," i joked, playfully punching his muscled bicep.

jungkook laughed, pushing me to the side with his shoulder. "as if! i'll charge you double."

giggling, i smacked his back. "that's no way to treat your hyung!"

"oh look, we're here!" jungkook quickly announced, ducking into the shop to avoid my hands. i chased after him, determined to teach the brat a lesson.
