Subject: Show Us Your Fandom
Time Limit: July 1 - August 31, 2017
Word Count: 2000+ (We're giving you a bit more time this time so we would like something a little longer. Possibly a multipart-er)
Think: Fanfiction. 'nuff said.
You never forget your first fandom. Mine was Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events. I was OBSESSED. I read all the books and companions, had fan theory meetings with my friends, drew fan art, and took quizzes to see who I was most like (I was always Klaus, but I wanted to be Violet). ASOUE was just the beginning of my passion for all things fictional.
Soon came Percy Jackson, then Harry Potter and Twilight. Next thing I knew I was writing fanfictions for the Hunger Games on Wattpad (A website I was introduced to for Fanfiction). Even if I'm no longer a part of all of those fandoms anymore, they will always hold a place in my heart for the family they gave me when I was just a nerdy little kid who loved stories. And fandoms are just that, a family of people brought together by their mutual love for something. What's greater than that?
This summer we're showing our appreciation for the amazing thing that is fandom and fanfic. We want you to show us your fandom. Write us an AU, an OTP, a continuation, alternate POV, and/or anything in between. We want Fanfics.
Keep in mind that we might not be in the same fandom as you, so your story should be able to make sense to someone who hasn't seen/watched/read whatever it is your fan fiction is about. We love being introduced to new things, it just has to make sense.
There is a lot of advice over on our website relating to fanfic and just writing in general so be sure to check that out if you haven't already. Click the external link to go straight to the advice page.
We're giving you two months to do this. We'd like something a little longer than a short story, maybe 3-5 parts as oppose to the one shots we usually ask for. It gives you more time to develop a plot and give your characters a real story line.
Create your story in "My Works" and tag it with "YWContestSummer2017". If it doesn't show up in our "Contest Entries" reading list within a few days, just let us know and we'll add it.
As always, the top 3 will get a shout out in here and on the message board.
