"Are you still pouting?"

"What does that mean?"

"Not sure. Still working on the lingo. You are in a strange mood. Have you not wondered why no one wants to spar with you?"

Kellum moved away from his fight dummy. "Are you brave enough?"

"Not after seeing you take down Godrick. No one takes down Godrick. I thought I would just ask you why you are bothered."

"Did not say I was bothered."

"You look bothered."

"No, I do not."

"You should. I would be if I had traveled through the universe to find my mate then been asked to stay away from her."

"I was not asked to stay away from her. I see her daily."

"Sure. Everything is just perfect in paradise. That is why you are here working out on the little bit of free time you get."

"Something is not right. Something with Jessalynn."

"I would think that you were saying that there is no chemistry, but I saw you at lunch with her. The numbers are accurate."
"That is not what I mean. I think something is not right with her. Nothing bad just something not right. I also believe she is upset with me."

"What does Dezrick say?"

"I have not asked. Jessalynn does not like it when I do that. If anything was serious Dezrick would tell me."

Frick followed him close on his heels when he left the training room. His friend was dear to him but sometimes he wished he could take a hint.

Forget take a hint. He could come right out and tell him to back off and Frick would not care. He would not go anywhere until he wanted to.

"Being mated is not as easy as we believed?"

Not with a human. "We are not mated yet." He could only imagine it would get worse once they were. His people were standing on ground they were unsure of and they were not use to that. And they did not like it

He could not say he liked it.

"How was your week with Ray of Sunshine? Easier?"

Extremely. They talked. Went about their day until they talked again. She was pretty. Sweet tempered. Educated. She would be an acceptable queen.

Spending time with her was a complete waste of time.

He would not be having these difficulties with Jessalynn if she was not to be his mate. "You are spending too much time with Jessalynn. Her name is Hayden."

"Jess is delightful. Some of the time."

Tomorrow he would get his time back with Jessalynn and Hayden could go back to meeting with her two other matches.

Or so he believed. Since Jessalynn has realized that their sessions with Frey and Pensley are to continue, he wondered if she would show up.

"So why have you not gone to check on her? Is that not your duty now?"

Staying out of her business was not easy. Since her business was now his business.

Was it not?

"Think she could be sick? We have always wondered if the immunes were just taking longer to be effected."

Frick knew exactly what asking that question was going to accomplish, Kellum noticed Frick's grin even as he was replaced with new surroundings.

Once again, he had concentrated on Jessalynn's living accommodations only to end up somewhere else.

A darken room. Alone light was up a head, but all he could see from here was that he stood in an empty room that held old furniture.

He knew she was here. He always knew when she was near.

An emotion he could not name engulfed him and threaten to take over. She was in danger.

Before he could form another thought his eyes were drawn to a darken corner across the room. He might not be able to see very well but he could hear quite well.

One shadow pulled back from the other one. "How old are you anyway?"

"Old enough you can kiss me but not old enough we can do more."

"Then we better make it a damn good kiss."

Kellum's hand tighten into a fist. Unable to comprehend his new feelings was nothing compared to his new urges.

All his thoughts now centered on hurting someone. There was no mistaking that.

Never had he ever wanted to hurt someone before. He knew how to, knew many ways to accomplish it. He could do it quite efficiently.

His thoughts were unacceptable, and he thought of another place before there was no rational part of him left.
