{a clean slate}

"Nazım, we're going down to Nesrin's school," Teyze Fatma's frantic voice added to the chaotic atmosphere in the household. Nazım's uncle and Deniz were well on their way to the police station. Büyükanne had volunteered to stay with Murat, and Nazım and Teyze Fatma were heading straight down to the school to get details about Nesrin's disappearance. Riya had tagged along to provide some information as she was the only one with Nesrin on the day she had gone missing. He guessed it to just be out of guilt that she was doing this.

They had gotten to the school, and right when his aunt went to go storm at the principal to ask questions that could've gained more attention from students and staff still staying there, Nazım pulled her back. They were standing just outside the office, and he had no intentions of letting his aunt's temper damage their chances of finding his sister. He saw some familiar girls passing them, and one of them stuck out the most. The same girl that tried to get into the convenience shop on the day Nesrin had come back battered from school and tried to get more attacks on her. She sneered and he just ignored her.

"Nazım I zink zos girls over there know you," Riya commented.

"I know," he said through gritted teeth. "Just ignore them."

"So is your store still open?" one of them asked, and he turned around.

He kept reminding himself it was a test of patience. "I don't own it," he said calmly but so lowly so they couldn't hear the anger slowly creeping into his voice.

"I forget your lot is too poor to be able to own anything, let alone a store," the rotund one had said. "Especially one people go to."

He simply shrugged and turned around, and opened his mouth just to speak to Teyze and Riya when he heard them suddenly whispering behind him. Then some snickered, and he kept his focus away. "I forgot to ask you," one of them jeered, still sounding like they were amused. "Your sister isn't showing any signs of her little pregnancy. How could she get rid of it so fast, ah?"

He clenched his fists and his arms were already visibly shaking.

"Oy," Riya spoke up. He didn't know what she was saying, so he assumed it was Russian. Fast Russian. After she finished her little tirade of a language that sounded frankly terrifiying, she spit at them, and they started to laugh again.

"Think she knows what we're saying?"

"Who cares?"

"And by the way, I heard you were looking for the girl. You might find her in a bedroom somewhere with the other one. What's his name?"

"Oh yeah, the outcast."

Nazım's fist came forward and he felt something pull it back and slam him into the wall. "Let me at them," he hissed.

"I can't let you do that," Riya said from behind him. He was surprised at how strong she was. "I heard your temper is horrible and you're scary when it's unleashed and I can't let you do here."

"I can conclude you girls are nothing but sad on the inside," Teyze Fatma said aridly. "How empty can someone be before they resort to wanting to suck the life out of others to fufill themselves? Unfortunate you still feel that way about yourselves. I understand if your hearts are this hard; I can easily believe it. Now instead of degrading and dehumanizing one of the best students and young engineers this school has to offer, I would appreciate it greatly if you did something for the betterment of the school."
