"number 47? your drink is ready!", i shout.

"y/n. you've been working hard. take a break.", i hear my manager from behind.

"thank you!", i turn around and bow at her.

"um, excuse me. i'd like to have a—", i hear someone from behind.

"i'm sorry but i'm on—oh my god. w-woojin?! what are you doing here?", i exclaim in excitement.

"y/n! surprise! uh—i'm back!", he says.

"what? jjinja? are you gonna be staying here?", i question, my eyes wide.

"yeah.", he laughs. i do the same.

"yah. i told you that i would come back.", he laughed.

"yah! i missed you so much!", i say.

"me, too, y/n! ahhh! i miss teasing the hell out of you.", he smiles.

"hmmm. i suddenly don't want you to be here.", i sarcastically say.

"yah! you're the first person i visited. have some respect! we haven't seen each other for like two years!", he reminds me.

"c'mon. let's sit down.", i tell him. we take a seat in front of each other.

"wow! look at you! back from the army!", i say. "how was it?"

"tiring, but you know, just helping the country.", he smiles.

"wow! you're all buff now, huh?", i laugh.

"why, you wanna see?", he smirks.

"hell nah, stay in yo lane.", i reply with a chuckle.

"so, how's school?", he wonders.

"same as usual. just wanna finish college and get a stable job."

"how's your mom?", his eyes filled with sorrow.

"she's getting better.", i reply.

"that's good.", he smiles.

ring! ring! ring!

"hold on, i gotta take this.", woojin excuses himself. a couple minutes later, i see woojin with a woman by his side. i hate to admit that it ached my heart. he must've found someone, huh?

"annyeong! i'm lee jaein! nice to meet you!", jaein introduces herself. i stand up and shake her hand.

"i'm y/n, nice to meet you, too.", i fake smile.

"you can sit here.", woojin guides her to  our table. we all sit down.

"y/n, this is my girlfriend.", he smiles wide, holding onto jaein's hand. there's a pain in my stomach. i blink twice, and try to smile.

"w-wow! c-congratulations!", i act.

"so, where'd you guys meet?", i wonder.

"training camp.", woojin answers. my mouth makes an 'o' shape.

"well, my break is over. i've gotta go. feel free to order up front.", i tell them, and go to the restaurant kitchen. i lean against the counter.

"woojin, why are you so mean?", i wipe my watery eyes. i peek through the door and see woojin and jaein laughing, having a good time.

"you seem happy with her. i'm sorry i couldn't make you laugh like that.", i say quietly.

but, woojin?

have you forgotten your promise?

~ flashback

"here you go! i made you a flower ring!", woojin slides the ring onto my ring finger.

"do you know what this means?", i ask him.

"yes! i'm going to marry you!", he laughs.

"ew! no! you're ugly.", i joke around.

"when we grow up, i promise, you're going to be mine!"

"promise?"

"promise!"

~ end flashback

you didn't keep your promise, woojin.

but who am i to be sad and mad about that promise you made when we were young.

you've found someone who makes you happy. good for you.

that's why you should never have promised that i was going to be yours, because i would never be that someone you'd hold tight.

i shouldn't be like this, woojin.

because after all, promises are meant to be broken.
