Chapter 9 up for reading. I have been waiting to write this scene for a while and am excited to finally get it out. The other parts just needed to be set up first.

I stand about a hundred yards from the beginning of the forest with all of the other unmated females in the academy. You could just barely see the sun through the tree coverage, as it had nearly set already.i would say there were about one hundred girls here and everyone seemed far too anxious about The Hunt. It was honestly starting to make me antsy.

"Alright, everyone," a woman says. "I'm sure you all remember the rules, but I will remind you of them all the same. You are to remain in human form all night. When the sun goes down you will all enter the woods and The Hunt will begin. When your mate catches your scent, if they catch your scent and find you, you have the option of accepting them or rejecting them. Good luck. "

At her signal we all rush into the woods. I push through the foliage, finding another clearing. Finding no point in running, I sit down, leaning back against a tree. I was gonna be here a while. A couple hours pass before I hear someone else break the tree line. I stand quickly. A wolf. The black wolf was giant. One I recognized too well. Brian. Brian Vennera was my mate. We had been growing  closer over the past few months, but if we were mates...Why were there ever complication?

You're both huge show offs who wanted to beat the other in everything you possibly could.

Why did my wolf have to be so logical? I already felt the pull. That little tug telling me that if the world came crashing down and I had him, I wouldn't even notice. I bite my lip. He goes behind a tree to shift and pull a set of shorts on.

"Looks like they were right," he says, voice low.

"Looks like it," I agree.

I was questioning my mission. Could I really kill him? Accepting the mating bond would let me into the pack house. Get me information. Let me make a solid plan. But did I want to follow through? What would he say if he knew my other name? Was it something I could hide? If there was one thing I knew, it is that your past always caught up to you. One day I may tell him, but for now, I would accept the bond and find out where my alliance is truly found.

He walks up to me, scanning over my face. I pull my hair back from it quickly. "Do you accept the bond?" He asks. "Do you agree to be my mate?"

"Yes," I whisper.

He brushes his lips against mine before leaning in fully. They were softer than I had expected. The kiss felt natural as if this wasn't the first time I had considered it. He walks foward, pressing my back to the tree behind me. I slide my hands over his stomach and chest, clasping them at his neck.

A small sound comes from my left and we break apart. "Come on. We need to get back to the school," he says. I nod. We had agreed to meet our friends in my dorm. "If it makes you feel any better, I am not ready for all of the I told you's either."

"I'm sorry, but do I smell a fresh mating bond on both of you?" Jake says when we enter the room. "What was that we've all been saying to you two since the winter dance incident?"

I roll my eyes. "You are all a bunch of assholes."

I sit beside Brian on the couch, pushing my hair behind my ears. Hannah speaks. "So, you're gonna talk to your mystery guardian and move into the pack house this summer, right?"

"No need. I'll just swap my flight out. Call him later." They all give me weird looks. "What? He won't even know I'm gone with how many of us there are."

Liar. I'm his second. He would be tracking me down.

"Really?" Nathan asks.

I nod. "There are too many of us to count. I don't think he even remembers my name. I'm the only wolf there. Sore thumb. Only a couple other people know about the law of coming here." Meaning Matthew. "He won't miss me at all."
