After breakfast we again gather in the girls dorm, Jack now included in that group. Why we always come here, I have no clue. Since the moment I met Nathan and Jake this morning I had been noticing their watchful stares. Apparently, my roommates had too.

"What is wrong with you two? You've been giving Adalynn this weird look all morning," Rachel says.

Jake ignores his mates question, instead asking one of his own. "One day. You've been her mate for one day, Brian. Last night you find out that she is a famed killer and you can't see what's  right in front of you? You forgive her just like that after one day?"

"I haven't forgiven Adalynn for anything. But I am trusting her to drop the act as Selina, and bring back the Alpha's daughter for good."

"Selina?" Hannah asks. "What are you talking about?"

"I've been going by Selina Carver for the past eight years. When the mating bond set, I decided I couldn't go through with my assignment. I will continue to pretend I am going through with it in the eyes of my companions on the other side, but I will be doing that by feeding them false information." My phone rings. It's Matthew. I ignore the call and it rings again.  "It's the third."

"Show us what it's like inside," Jake demands. "Take the call on speaker."

I huff, answering it. "I'm not even at HQ and you feel the need to pester me?"

"We have a situation. You are still the second and The Master is gone. Eric and Ben got in a fight. What do you want us to do about it?"

"You're asking me to hand down punishment." I grin. "Well, those to have always been a pain in my ass. Let them go until someone gets knocked out. Take the loser to the infirmary and let the winner work out his anger in the training room. Make sure they know it's their last warning."

"Are you sure you want to—"

"Are you really arguing my orders after the nice chat we had last night?" All of the guys in the room flinch at my dark tone and question.

"O-of course not, S-Selina. I'll handle it."

"Good." I hang up, leaning into Brian. He was tense behind me. "Idiots. All of them. By the way, Jake, I lied about the rogue trail. They were on your borders because they will be assisting in the attack."

"Good to know," Brian says. "Are you really the only female in this guy's ranks?"

"Yep. Lets just say I have enjoyed having some female company in my living quarters."

"So, explain your original mission again," Nathan says.

I flush. "Get Brian to fall for me and forget he should wait for his mate. I gain entry to the pack house and tell everyone the best way to get in. If I could handle that, I would be given the privledge of killing the Alpha or previous Alpha depending on when Brian steps up."

"This whole thing was about killing Alpha James?" Rachel asks in shock.

"I was prepared to. But after last night... When I felt the mating bond I knew I couldn't kill any of you. The same way I couldn't kill Violet when he gave me her file over break. I can't kill people I consider my family. Maybe coming here has made me weak. I told myself I wouldn't get attached to any of you like that, but I did."

"Adalynn," Hannah starts. "What got you here?"

I swallow. "I was a homeless child, doing what I could to keep myself alive. Someone offered me help if I would work for it. He trained me to be a heartless killer and I let him. I guess kinder company has made me a bit of a softy." I turn to Brian. "You told me on the first day that you would find my weakness. I just told you everything. Pick whichever one you'd like."

He huffs. "Things are different," he says, kissing my temple. "I was just pissed you kicked me down to the dirt on the first day of school."

"You told her to prove she could move up," Rachel points out.

"I didn't realize I was facing Selina Carver."

"Yeah, well, once this is all over I'll just be Adalynn."

Jake finally speaks again. "Until the day comes calling where you miss it all and you stab us in the back. You may have fooled Brian because he wants a mate, but you haven't proved yourself to me. I bet that entire speech was a lie and the second we give you a scrap of information—"

Brian stands quickly with a growl. "Jake—"

I quickly step in front of him before he tries to fight Jake in my defense. Stupid overprotective males. It was even worse with the boys in this school with blood of Alphas, Betas, and Thirds. I stroke his arms and he buries his face in my neck, his wolf calmed by my scent. He slowly settles at my touch, still glaring at his closest friend. I look back to see Jake storm out of the room.

"Guys, y'all can hang out here. Brian, can we go talk in your dorm?"

He nods, kissing my forehead before walking out, catching my hand in his on his way. After entering the room, he locks the door behind us. "Now, what was it you wanted to talk about?"

"Jake isn't gonna trust me for a while. It's just how he is. He can hold a grudge and remember a lie like nobody's business. Please don't start any fights on my behalf."

"Adalynn, my wolf—"

"He is your Beta. He deserves the position more than anyone. He is your best friend. Don't make his lack of trust of someone who is famous for evil be the downfall of a solid friendship."

"You are going to be his Luna and you are my mate. I will not have him disrespecting you for any reason, Adalynn. I—"

Before he can argue any more I kiss him. The moment our lips meet he is lifting me by my thighs. I wrap my legs around his waist and he carries me over to the farthest sofa. He pins down with his body. I slip my hands under his shirt and he kisses down my neck. His teeth graze my skin and I push him back slightly.

"Not yet. You can't mark me yet. I want to wait until this is over. When I know we are all safe. When I have proved myself to your pack. Every member in it."

"I think you mean our pack, my Luna-to-be."

Ah. So that mating bond makes guys quick to trust their mates. How are things gonna turn out with our lovely Beta-to-be? I guess we'll find out in chapters to come. I already have a few ideas. Mwahaha.
