OFFSCREEN

Katy quickly looked up from her phone and tucked it away, glancing over at Tom with a smile as he stared back at her before turning his attention in front of him.

They were sitting on the couch in her hotel room in front of the tv with a movie playing. It reminded her of before when they were together, because that was their thing. Despite being actors, neither one of them tired of movies. It was like their tradition to watch a film together, usually they were bundled up together with blankets and legs tangled, Katy's head resting on Tom's stomach or vice versa. But today, they were simply sitting. They had blankets, yes, but they were sitting an acceptable distance from each other that friends would be sitting at, all touches accidental if any.

Their focus was on the film, but both their minds were elsewhere. Tom wanted to say something, something about their relationship or maybe spontaneously grab Katy's hand just to see how she would react. Katy would've let him hold her hand, she would've even snuggled under his arm until the movie ended or maybe pretend to fall asleep and allow her head to loll on his shoulder.

Both were scared of what would happen if they did those things, but decided to take a chance because they were comfortable enough with each other not to just be honest about what they felt and what they wanted to do despite the consequences that could come out of it.

Taking his eyes away from the tv, Tom furrowed his brows and looked up at Katy. "You and Matt only have two scenes left to do together, right?"

Smiling over at him as she sensed a bit of jealously in his words, Katy nodded. "Yeah, and then he's going back to LA."

Tom subtly let out a sigh in relief. "Oh, okay, cool." He was still a bit irritated that Matt was even there in the first place, but the fact that he was leaving soon helped him settle down a bit.

"Why do you ask?" Katy asked him, trying to get some answers from him about his feelings. Did he ask her that because he wanted to make sure Matt couldn't get in the way of him trying to get her back or was he just asking to ask?

Shrugging his shoulders, Tom replied. "Just wondering." Katy raised her brows at him, hoping to get more of a response from him. Taking a shaky deep breath, Tom continued, "Actually, I wanted to ask how things are between you guys. Is he being okay?" He trailed off.

Katy just nodded. "He's fine. I mean, obviously there was a lot of not-so good history between us, but we got past that a long time ago. We're just friends and we both agreed that's all we're going to be." At this, Tom couldn't help but curl his lips into a smile. He was happy to know that he didn't have to worry about Katy falling for Matt, at least not as much as he thought he had to. He was still going to keep an eye on the guy of course.

"That's good." Tom said. "I just wanted to make sure, in case... I don't know. I just wanted to know." Katy felt a warm feeling in her chest knowing he still cared, and the two looked at each other with smitten expressions. Katy's hand was purposely lying in a place where he could just grab it. He could pass it off as either a friendly handhold or a romantic gesture. He'd take either if it meant he could hold her hand again.

Deciding that she was going to make the first move, Katy swiftly laced her fingers between Tom's and held his hand tightly. "Thank you, for wanting to know."

He looked down at their hands and returned the tight squeeze. "No problem."

Smiling softly, Katy leaned over to rest her head on Tom's shoulder, face nuzzling into his neck a bit. Neither one of them knew if this meant they were getting back together, although that's what they both wanted. They still had some things to talk about, but what they both knew, was that this was a start to getting back to who they used to be when they were together.
