I was walking around the Avengers tower, looking for something to do. It had been 6 months since the fight at the airport, 4 since Caps team weren't fugitives anymore and 2 since Bucky got an arm back. The teams all doing okay, there are still some hiccups in the group, but we're working on them. I myself hadn't been part of the fight, as I stood on my own team. I couldn't choose over my friends, even though Cap was trying to stop the bad guy but Tony was following orders. Sighing, I rubbed my eyes as I decided to knock on Bucky' door, since he hadn't shown his face to the weekly meeting we'd organised to see how people are.
"Hey Buck." I said and walked into the room, stopping in my tracks at the door. He was standing there in front of the mirror, shirt in hand while his whole to side was exposed. I let my eyes wander over his back and shoulders, but I stopped when they landed on where his shoulder meets his metal arm. He didn't acknowledge my presence, so I guess he was zoned out. Closing the door, I slowly walked over to him, standing right behind his as I looked down the joining. It was all red and burnt, but it didn't appear to hurt him, it just didn't look good. Slowly, I lifted my hand and let my fingers delicately run down the connected joints; feeling the cold of the metal and warmth of his skin at once. But I must have caught his attention as suddenly he was facing me, my lifted arm in between his metal arm.
"Don't." He lowly growled, a look of anger in his eyes.
"Buck." I whispered, looking at my wrist. "You're hurting me." And something inside him clicked, because he suddenly let go of me, and the look turned to one of guilt and self loathing. He kept his head down and turned back round to the mirror, his back to me. But I just lifted my arm again, this time placing my hand flat on the joining. I saw his shoulders tense, but I just leaned forward and kissed at the top of his shoulder, seeing his head turn to look at me.
"What are you doing?" He questioned, strain in his voice. But I ignored him, kissing down the joint until I was just above his armpit like a mother would kiss where he child was hurting.
"I'm making it feel better." I replied, stepping around to stand in front of him. "I want to help take the pain away."
"But you can't." He sighed, looking down at his arm. "Not with this."
"I sadly don't mean the physical pain James." I spoke as his head shot to look at me, guessing since I used his real name. "The one you keep locked up inside about your arm." His face frowned sadly, and I leaned forwards to kiss down his shoulder, starting from just above his armpit all the way back up to his shoulder. "You can talk to me at any time James. Even if I'm asleep, wake me up. I'm always here." And I wrapped my arms around his waist, laying my head on his chest, no later feeling his arms wrap round mine, his chin on top of my head.
"Thank you y/n." He sighed, leaning and kissing me on the head.
"Yo are no monster James Buchanan Barnes." I spoke, closing my eyes. "You are a great man who has been put through too much in life and needs to be free and rest."
