⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀I sat there on the edge of the bridge with my feet lightly in the water. As my toes swayed in the lake, I starred at the dark sky. There has to be some reason why Johnny never showed up. I'm probably being too overdramatic. He probably forgot, or fell asleep or something. All these excuses swirled inside my head, when I suddenly heard footsteps behind me.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀I turned around with hope that it might be Johnny, but it faded away when I met the brown eyes of Hayden. "Hey." He said softly walking near me. "Where's Annie?" I questioned immediately. "I thought she was with you." He replied. "No, she was supposed to be with you." I said.  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Well she isn't, and since when does Annie have to be with us when we hang out?" He questioned taking a seat next to me. "Um... I never said that." I said losing eye contact with him. He pulled my chin to face him again and said, "Kenzie I know." My heart immediately skipped a beat. He knows, but how? Did Annie tell him?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Know what?" I asked trying to act like nothing was wrong. "I know that Annie likes me." He said. My eyes bulged out with the sentence his lips just spat. "How do you know?!" I questioned in surprise. "I've know Annie and you almost my whole life. You guys are terrible liars." He replied. Maybe we were a little to obvious. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Plus I heard you guys in the bathroom today. Y'all really need to know how to whisper." He said adding a little humor in his words. I let out a little laugh. "I just have one question." He stated with a more serious face. "Yea?" I asked. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Okay, I was actually about to do it. I looked into her big brown eyes and asked, "Is Annie the reason you said no to me, that night at the lake?" Her eyes suddenly looked like it sank. I could almost hear how loud her heart was beating. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Hayden look, the reason I said no wasn't because of Annie. It's was because if we were to become a pair, and didn't work out our friendship would have been ruined, and that's something I never want to break." She explained. She took my hand and intertwine her fingers with mine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀To be honest I really had hope that Annie was the reason. "Oh, I see." I said trailing my eyes to lake. The vibe got really awkward after that, and we just stayed in silence. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"What are you doing here alone anyways?" I asked her trying to break the quietness. "Oh.. um I was meeting Johnny here." She said hesitantly. "Where is he?" I questioned. "I wish I knew." She said with a hint of sadness in her voice. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀"Hey any guy, who would reject you like that, is delusional. You're so beautiful, funny, and kind. There one hell of a idiot." I said softly trying to make her feel better. She looked up at me and flashed a weak smile. "Thanks Hayden." She said. "Anytime." I replied. "No I'm serious, thank you for always being there for me. That's what I love about you." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Part of me wanted to get up and leave, and not be such a bitch to my bestfriend. But the other part wanted to stay. I wanted to feel loved. Like someone actually cared for me. So being the stupid person I was, I did nothing. It became one of the biggest regrets in my life.
