Maya's POV

It's creepy. I know that. You know that. Everyone knows that. However, I'm still watching Riley as she sleeps. She's been tossing and turning for hours now, but it's only 4AM, so I still have plenty of time before the sun rises. Riley stopped moving and is now laying on her back. I look away for a moment and then I hear screaming. It's Riley. I lift up the window and in a nanosecond I'm next to her bed, shaking her, trying to wake her up. "Riley! Come on Riley, wake up! Wake up." She doesn't budge so I do the only thing I can think of. I straddle her and I kiss her. She stops struggling and then her eyes open. I linger for a brief second and pull away, climbing off of her.

"How'd you get in here? Why were you on top of me? Why did you kiss me? HOW DO YOU KNOW WHERE I LIVE?!" She looks at me with a confused face. I'm trying my hardest to think of a good lie.

"I live in the apartment above you. I happened to be up still and heard you scream. So I rushed down the fire escape and through your unlocked window." I pause to take a breath. "I tried shaking you and everything else to wake you up, but you wouldn't wake up. So I climbed on top of you and kissed you as a last resort. And well.... it worked."

"Oh," she stared me in the eye, although her gaze flickered down to my lips. "Thank you for waking me up. Sorry if it was any trouble."

"It's fine. I promise. I'm gonna go back upstairs now." I head out the window and up a flight on the fire escape. I hate lying. Especially to beautiful girls. Wait. Maya. No. You can't do this. I think I'm falling in love, but she's a human and it would never work. I slide the window up on this apartment and enter. I look in the bed and there's an older woman. Probably early to mid thirties. She's blonde, with blue eyes just like me. I guess this lie might actually work out. I slip out of this room and check around. There's no one else and no signs of anyone else living with her. "This will work perfectly." I pull out my phone and dial the number of my friend Farkle. He picks up on the second ring.

"Ladyy."

"Farkle. I need a favor. I think I'm falling in love with a girl and I just lied to her and told her I live in the apartment above hers."

"And you need my help why? Just murder whoever lives there and call it good."

"Farkle," I let out a sigh. "I have a better idea. The lady who lives here looks old enough to be my mom and is blonde with blue eyes like me. I'm gonna text you the address. When you get here climb up the fire escape."

"Fine. You still haven't explained why you need me yet."

"I will when you get here. See you in a couple minutes." I hang up and shoot him a text with the address. Shortly I hear a quiet tap on the window. "Farkle. My favorite vampire pal and the only daylighter I know."

"That's why you needed MY help," the quirky but awkward boy says. "You want me to turn this lady so she's a daylighter like me and not a nightwalker like you."

"Bingo! Look. She's a heavy sleeper and I've already tied her up and gagged her. She can't scream and she can't run. So get to it!" Farkle glides over to the bed and starts the turning process, biting her neck and injecting his venom. Her eyes shoot open and she struggles against the rope. Then she goes still. Farkle unites her and takes the gag out.

"What's your name?" Farkle and I ask in unison.

The lady looks at us and says "Katy. Katy Hunter. Now what did you do to me? Why am I so cold? What's that metallic smell in the air?"

"Well, my friend Farkle over here is a daylighter. My names Maya and I'm a nightwalker. Both of us are a kind of vampire. I know, I know. Vampires aren't real, right? Wrong." I smile flashing my fangs and Farkle does the same.

"Maya is my friend. She got herself caught in a messy lie with your downstairs neighbor. So I came to the rescue. I changed you into a vampire. You're a daylighter like me, meaning the sun won't hurt you at all. You can't tell anyone and now you have to help Maya out. My job is done here, so see you later Maya. Oh, and you better hurry up and explain to her because the sun is gonna rise here soon." With that Farkle jumps out the window and gracefully lands on the ground.
