Riley's POV

I wake up in Maya's apartment, laying on her plush bed. The room is dark and I feel cold. My eyes are super adjusted to the dark. I don't see anyone in here with me, so I head out to the living room, rubbing a sore spot on my neck.

"Peaches?" I hear the shower running and her mom isn't home, so it must be her. I go to the living room and decide to watch Fuller House. After the episode is over, Maya comes out wrapped in just a towel. "Peaches!" Maya is stunned, frozen in her place while the towel drops to the floor. "Peaches, go put some clothes on, and could you bring me a hoodie too? I'm cold."

"Sure honey."

Maya's POV

"Sure honey," I say as I pick up the towel and walk to my room. I quickly change and then grab my favorite hoodie, which also happens to be Riley's favorite hoodie of mine. I walk back out and sit on the couch. "Here honey."

"Thanks peaches... So how did I get here last night? The last thing I remember is taking the trash out at the end of my shift."

"Riles... I'm about to tell you something, and you might not believe at first, but then I'm going to prove to you that it's real. Do you think you can handle it?"

"Of course Peaches."

"You know all those stories about fairies and unicorns? Werewolves? Vampires? Demons? Angels?" Riley nods her head but doesn't speak. "Well honey, those stories are true. They're 100% real."

"Maya. I'm not dumb. Everyone knows that those things aren't real."

"Riley. I'm a vampire." I walk over to the window and draw back the curtain.

"Maya. Quit trying to prank me." I stick my hand in the sunlight. Riley watches slowly as smoke starts rolling off my hand. "OH MY GOD MAYA STOP." She runs to me and pulls my hand out of the sun.

"See? I'm a vampire. Haven't you wondered why I'm always cold when you touch me? Or why I always wear a very specific pair of sunglasses and only those specific ones when we go out during the daylight?"

"I just figured you liked those the most, and that you were anemic." Riley shivers. "Why is it so cold in here? I feel like I'm a human popsicle."

"So you mean you feel like me? Is there anything else that's different this morning that doesn't normally happen?"

"My eyes were super adjusted to the dark when I woke up... and my neck is sore... WAIT?! Maya did you turn me into a vampire?!" She's looking at me intensely. I can't tell if it is a look of horror.

"Technically? No."

"WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?"

"Well... Lucas found you in the alley last night. You had a bite mark from another vampire. I don't know who yet, but Lucas says he saw the vampire as he fled. Lucas didn't give me any more details, but does have a better description. Anyway, he called me and told me that you had been attacked. Farkle and I came as quick as possible."

"So who turned me? Was it Lucas?"

"No. Lucas isn't a vampire. He's a warlock. However, Farkle is a vampire and he changed you."

"What do you mean? Farkle is a vampire? Why didn't the sun burn me when I pulled you out of the light?" I sit down on the couch and pull her next to me.

"Yes. Farkle is a vampire. He's a daylighter. The sun doesn't affect him. He's essentially just a human that only feeds on blood and feels cold all the time. As far as the sun not burning you... well... that's because I purposely had Farkle turn you so you could still go to school and shit like that. You're a daylighter now too. Speaking of which.... You're probably hungry. Hold on." I run to the kitchen and grab a few blood pouches out of the refrigerator. "Here." I toss one at Riley.

"Maya... I'm scared.."

"Don't be. Just open the pouch and drink it like it's a CapriSun." She does as she's told, hesitantly at first. Soon enough she has one pouch finished and reaches out and grabs another... and another... "Riles! Slow down. If you feed too fast, you won't be able to control yourself."

"But Mayaaaaaaaaa! It tastes so good!"

"I know, but slow and steady means you stay in control and you don't go on a killing spree. Although that would make a fun date idea..." I lean over and kiss Riles. She tastes sweeter now, like blood and honey.
