Author's POV

It's been a while since we last checked on our favorite mixed species couple. However, all is well. Riley is still human, and still completely oblivious about Maya. Maya is still alive and hasn't been killed for exposing the vampire race. Let's have a look at them now.... shall we?

Riley's POV

"Peaches?" I look up at the blonde beauty that I'm cuddling with. My gaze is met with the ocean staring back.

"Yeah Honey?"

"Do you remember the day I asked you on our first date?"

"Like it was yesterday Riles."

"Well.. did you ever finish that song? If you did, can I hear it?" Maya gets up and effortlessly glides the room like she doesn't have to do any work at all to do so. She picks up her guitar and sits back down.

"You sure you want to hear my awful voice?"

"Maya, you could be fucking famous if you would just share with the whole world instead of Farkle and I. Play." I watch and listen contently as Maya smiles and strums a few chords.

You like New York City in the daytime

I like New York City in the nighttime

You say you like sleeping with the air off

I don't, I need it on

You like the light coming through the windows

I sleep late, so I just keep 'em all closed

You ignore the music on the radio

I don't, I sing-a-long

I don't ask for you to change, baby no no no

And you don't ask for me to change

Tell me how we're not alike

But we work so well we don't even know why

Funny how the stars crossed right

'Cause we work so well and we don't even know why

You can call it fire and ice

But we work so well and we don't even know why

We don't even know why, no no

We don't even know why, no no no

She pauses her singing and plays a few measures of guitar. She looks at her hand as she plays, focusing on her fingering. I can't help but think about how cute my girlfriend is. Wait, did I just....? Shit. "Hey Riles," she pauses playing. "This next part makes sense lyrically if you sing it rather than me."

"So it's a duet?"

"Yeah. Here." She hands me a paper with the lyrics written down and points at my verses. "Sing that. Just sing it along with the guitar." She continues to play. (Anything in parenthesis that is centered is Maya singing while the main part is Riley.)

Cold outside and you're just in a t-shirt

I have cold blood even in a sweater

You start your night sippin' by the kilo

I don't, I know you know

I don't ask for you to change, baby no no no

And you don't ask for me to change

Tell me how we're not alike

But we work so well and we don't even know why

Funny how the stars crossed right

'Case we work so well and we don't even know why

You can call it fire and ice

But we work so well and we don't even know why

We don't even know why, no no (no no no)

We don't even know why, no no no

No no no no

We like it in the daytime (we don't even know)

We like it in the nighttime (we don't even know)

No no no no

We like it in the daytime

(We don't even know, know, know, know, know)

We like it in the end of time

Suddenly the guitar changes a bit and she motions for me to stop singing, while she continues.

Somehow we end up on the same side

And you wouldn't think that we'd be alright

Even our eyes are different colors, but we see fine

Somehow we end up on the same side

And you wouldn't think that we'd be alright

Even our eyes are different colors, but we see fine

OHHHHHH

Tell me how we're not alike

She motions for me to sing the backgrounds when they come up.

But we work so well and we don't even know why

('Cause we work so well and we don't even know why, why)

Funny how the stars crossed right

'Cause we work so well and we don't even know why

(But we don't even know why)

You can call it fire and ice

But we work so well and we don't even know why

('Cause we work so well and we don't even know why, why)

We don't even know why, no no

We don't even know why, no no no

No no no no

We like it in the daytime (oh)

We like it in the end of time (We don't even know why)

No no no no

We like it in the daytime

We like it in the nighttime

She finishes singing. I can't believe I subconsciously called Maya my girlfriend.

"So?" She drags it out a little.

"It's great Maya. I've got a question..." I look down and frown at the space between us. "Will you be my girlfriend?" She rolls her chair over to me after setting down her guitar and grabs my face, pulling me close.

"Of," kiss, "course," kiss, "I," kiss, "will." She doesn't pull away this time. She deepens this kiss and I find it harder to breathe. I pull back, reluctantly, and gasp for air. "I love you Riles, and I will love you till the end of time."

"I love you too, Peaches."
