"So what do we do now?" I ask numbly. I'm not sure what kind of answer I'm expecting. "Everything is changing..."
"Well, we could find a place to stay and live. Stop hiking and just... wait to die, I guess." Leo says in a sigh, smiling at me. I give a weak smile in return.
"Ha, ha. Thanks, smartass." I say quietly, scratching PJ as I speak. I feel so lost. I had finally started getting used to life in the library, in the cold... I don't even worry over what to do anymore. I'm just perpetually terrified of dying, and at the same time, ready for it.
"Hey, I'm serious, though. We could find ourselves a nice empty house to live in and adjust until either life goes back to normal, or... we die. Whichever happens first." Leo says, taking my hand from the cat to hold in his own. I'm forced to look at him and I can't help but smile a bit. I know it is only because I adore Leo, not because I am truly happy.
"I don't know. Moving in with a strange, older guy? This is moving pretty fast." I joke to humor him. He scoots closer to me, and smiles wider.
"Oh, come on, I'm not that strange." Leo says, rolling his eyes before locking onto mine. I let out a laugh. This man truly has a gift to be able to elicit any sort of happiness from me anymore.
"Okay. Let's do it." I agree to hisplan to normalize life as much as we possibly can, then disappear inside thewarmth and comfort of his lips.
