"It's been nice getting to know you. Good luck." Jen bids me goodbye as she climbs into the car with Rose.
"Take care, kids. Remember, you can always change your minds. There's a few cars here for ya. I wrote directions; they're on the counter if you decide... I mean, hell, it could mean life or death." Jim tells those of us staying behind.
"What if it's just death or death?" Alice mumbles. Jim sighs, the hugs her. He hugs each of us, telling us to be careful and stay safe. He adjusts his baseball hat and climbs into the driver's seat of the minivan in front of Jen's car.
Molly and Ben have attached themselves to Leo and Jacob. Dave and Carla basically have to rip them away and force them into the van. They're both saying bye over and over, crying. I'm sure they want their mom. I look at my feet, saying goodbye to the group as they start their cars and roll away. They're gone too soon. Alice, Jacob, Trent, Leo, and I are left alone, standing in the street.
"And then there were five." Trentsays, staring off where our friends disappeared in the distance. West Linn suddenlyfeels like another ghost town. Just like everywhere else.
