I wake up wearing only my tee shirt. I am still in the truck bed on our pile of blankets and pillows. It is bright, but cloudy. It's not as hot as it has been lately. There is more wind and less humidity. We're not in the field anymore, we're moving. It isn't until I realize that, that I also realize Leo is no longer beside me, but driving. I sit up and soak in the breeze on my face. Once I feel fully awake, I dig around in the blankets to find my underwear and shorts, pull them on, and climb through the back window of the truck to join my shirtless, sexy boyfriend.
"Good morning! Did it get too hot out there?" Leo greets me as I get situated in the passenger seat. I shrug.
"Eh... Where are we going?" I wonder.
"Just driving. Enjoying the October-summer breeze." He answers, glancing at me with a smile. I smile back as I take his free hand in mine and look out the window at the landscape. Then the rain comes. It's a steady, calm rain, and a pleasant smell floats in through the back window as it falls. Cleansing.
We continue to enjoy ourselves, the weather, and the time we have left. I have decided to stay as positive as I can and keep looking for the bright side. Sure, it's hot as balls outside, but at least it isn't an ice age. And sure, there is a good chance life on Earth is ending, but at least we're together. At least we'll be with our families again... wherever they are.
A/N- Bittersweet isn't a strong enough word to describe the bittersweetness I feel with this book, and these last few chapters.
Later, Bookworms.
