Reese thinks that all things bad stem from around her job.
Before Reese left her home, she is smart enough to empty her bank account so her parents can't touch the funds. She has a decent amount of cash saved up for college, so she takes it and runs. This decent amount helps Reese for a while, but she is beginning to run low, and she can't keep asking Jordan to cook for her because Jordan is getting suspicious enough already.
"Reese Parker, if you need a place to stay, Asher and I's place is open to you for free. We have a lovely guest room, and your fit body would be a big help with the groceries and laundry."
God no.
Reese's parents were in control of her money 24/7, so when she brought up that she wanted to open her own bank account, they were a bit shocked, but also proud of their daughter for wanting to woman up, and become more independent. Of course, this was before any of them knew the existence of Reese's soulmate. Her parents were happy to guide her, help her decide on a bank, and let her go on her way. Reese thanks whatever God is out there that her parents let her so easily open her own bank account, and didn't ask for any of the information. However, just to be safe, she extracted all of the money and closed the account when she left home.
Reese refuses to take any chances when it comes to her parents. She cut ties with them, and that meant doing everything her own way.
When Reese left home, she promised herself that she will be independent, and at least try and do the majority of adulting on her own.
This does not include late night sob sessions with Jordan, or snuggling up to Asher when she has a bad dream.
Nope.
So, with being an independent adult in mind, Reese applies for jobs. She tells herself that, the first offer she gets, it will be the one that she takes.
Of course, karma loves to fuck with Reese in the best of ways.
Reese is walking around the city, going in and out of businesses, filling out job applications. There have been a few people who said they would call, which excites her. There have also been a few sons who think she is cute, which also excites her. If a son thinks she's cute, maybe she will get hired. Then
"Fuck all of y'all, man! I don't need this, or you!" A woman comes stomping out of a large building, shouting. He bumps into Reese, shoves her out of his way, then continues on. A different, very scary looking man walks out, calmly. He eyes Reese, and Reese can swear that she feels his soul leave his body. So much for soulmates, because his soul is gone.
"Hey kid. What's your name?" The man asks, voice deep and smooth.
"R-Reese. Reese parker..." Reese answers, immediately.
"How old are you?"
"19, sir." It's silent for a few beats, and Reese feels like she could eat her own stomach.
"Well, Reese. Reese Parker. I'm out of a waiter, and you just happen to be here. You want the job?" Reese steps into action then, nodding furiously, and the man chuckles, "it's yours. Let's go inside and talk business."
Reese ignores any and all intuition, following the man inside. At first, it looks like a decent restaurant. There are people eating, cooks making all sorts of ruckus in the back, and it's kind of hot. However, they walk straight through the restaurant to the back, and are greeted by a large steel door, and an even larger man standing behind a podium, who seems to be guarding the door. The larger man takes one look at Reese and the guy he had spoken to outside, presses a button, and the steel door audibly unlocks, opening for them to step inside. They walk up a flight of stairs, and the real fun begins.
