Reese cries that evening, harder than she's ever cried before. She cries harder than when her parents first began neglecting her, spitting on the very ground she walks on. She cries harder than when she left home, packing up everything in the middle of the night, and receiving no phone calls from any of her family members after that, effectively leaving her alone. Reese cries, remembers that she is supposed to text Jordan, and decides to just sleep over at their place instead.
Reese may be shy, and still slightly wary of Jordan and Asher, but they've already seen her cry, still didn't judge her for it, and she really does not want to be alone right now. So, she takes a few deep breaths, showers, gathers herself, then leaves the quiet dorm room.
When she arrives at Jordan and Asher's place, the latter is the one that answers. Asher raises his eyebrows and tilts his head slightly to the side, wondering why she was here.
"Reesie? Do you know what time it is? You shouldn't be out wandering around this late." Asher speaks, crossing his arms. Reese opens her mouth to say something, but a choked sob overtakes any words that even remotely wanted to come out. Asher's face visibly tenses, body automatically opening up to Reese, who wraps herself around Asher. The older asks no questions, makes no comments, leads the younger inside and straight to bed, where he rubs her back until her wrecked sobs turn into soft snores.
Asher was afraid this would happen, and he has a feeling it has to do with Reese's soulmate.
Asher hates that he is always right.
.
The next day, Reese sleeps in, finding comfort in Jordan and Asher's king sized bed. It's Saturday, and Reese doesn't work today, which she is thankful for. Shawn decided to make her first work week somewhat sparse, not wanting to overwhelm the young woman. So, Reese sleeps. She sleeps, and dreams of pitch black, nothingness. Reese somehow welcomes the nothingness, preferring it over any nightmares she may have. Then again, no nightmare could be worse than her soulmate turning his back on Reese.
His soulmate.
Reese feels tears prick at her eyes, remembering how her soulmate had just walked away from her.
How could he just walk away?
Reese takes a deep breath, trying to calm her clenching heart. Breathe. Think. Her soulmate did say he was in a rush, so maybe he just didn't notice. Yeah, that could be it. Reese just has to tell him that they are soulmates, and everything will be fine.
But, Reese has to find him first.
Her soulmate disappeared so fast, Reese didn't really have time to say much, besides apologizing for running into him, let alone asking for his name. However, Reese is determined. She will find her soulmate again, and give it to him.
Her soulmate, somewhere out there living their life.
In New Haven fucking Connecticut in fucking America, population practically a gazillion when Reese thinks of trying to find her soulmate out of all the people currently living here.
Reese turns onto her back in bed, eyes scanning the room. The walls are painting a soft hue of pink, and the majority of the items in the room are they're soft enough not to hurt Reese's already overwhelmed eyes.
Reese can see color again. Besides the fact that her soulmate completely turned his back on her and walked away, she can see color again and everything is beautiful.
Colors seem much brighter than they were before she lost them, that probably being the soulmate effect. Everything looks much more vibrant, and Reese's senses are overwhelmed with all that she is drinking in, trying not to choke in the process.
