Jack's point of view
You can do this, Jack. It's only the first day.
At a new school.
In the middle of the year.
As a junior.
I ran my hands through my hair and sighed, staring at my schedule and barely deciphering it. I should've paid attention when the man at the front desk tried to direct me to my locker.
After five minutes of searching like a lost child that's unfortunately strayed from its mother, I found my locker. It was gray and rusted, and I had forgotten I had to bring my own lock. The school had a strict "no decorating" policy.
Well this was going great.
The halls were full to the brim of gossiping kids, talking in obnoxious voices or standing around in the middle of things trying to look cool.
News flash, they're not.
One of the said groups stood right next to my locker. I tried to slip past them and mind my own business so I could get to class, but they didn't like that.
A boy with brown curly hair raised his eyebrow at me. "You don't go here."
So then why the fuck am I here, dumbass?
Ignore them, Jack.
A girl with bright ginger hair and blue eyes smacked her gum and rolled her eyes when I continued putting my stuff away. "'Scuse me, but I think Gaten was talking to you."
I closed my locker and walked away. They didn't seem like the type of crowd I fit in with.
My first class was chemistry, which made me want to die even more. I looked down at my vans as I walked, forgetting that high school could very potentially be like the streets of New York City where you could get hit by anything if you didn't pay attention.
I ran into a tall figure, well, tall compared to me. Cause I'm short. He held onto my shoulders and steadied me so I didn't fall over.
"Woah there! You're lucky you bumped into me, anyone else in this school would've killed you!"
I looked up at him. He had the funniest curly hair, it reminded me of a bowl of noodles or something. And pretty brown eyes.
"You new here? I'm Wyatt, I'm a junior."
I nodded at him, deciding he was a person worth my breath. "Yeah, my name's Jack. I'm a junior too."
He patted me on the back softly and asked where I was going.
"Chemistry with uhhh...Ms. Ryder."
His smile grew wider. "Cool! I'm going there now. We sit in groups, but she lets us choose them. My friends and I could make room for you at our table."
Oh god, more people. Heaven help me.
He put his hand on the small of my back and led me to the door of Ms. Ryder's class, which was only a few feet down.
We sat at a table that only held one other boy. The bell hadn't rung yet. He had flat hair and blue eyes that reflected the light from his phone screen.
He looked up, grinning when he saw Wyatt. "Hey babe! I was just gonna ask where you were. Who's this?"
"This is Jack, he's new. Bumped into him. He seems loser enough."
Um, he didn't need to come at my life like that.
"Excuse me?" I furrowed my eyebrows.
The boy laughed, throwing his head back at my offended face. "We call ourselves the losers. Us and our friends, I mean. I'm Jaeden. Lieberher. Nice to meet you."
