I woke up to find a warm, wet cloth over my forehead. " Annabelle? " Autumn said worriedly and I opened my eyes " Yes? " I said lazily an she sighed deeply. " She's alive! " She yelled and suddenly I heard Crystal and Indigo sigh deeply as well. " What's going on? " I asked them sitting up and Crystal sat on the bed " You were moving in the bed and murmuring Don't go! in your sleep. We though you were having a seizure " Crystal explained and I nodded. " oh " I said and Crystal stood up. Don't go? Did I mean Andrew? Before I could think, a knock on the door ringed through the room. " I'll get it " I said before anyone could. I straightened my short silk bed dress and smoothed down my hair, expecting it to be Trinity. As I opened the door though, I found a pair of light blue eyes flickering with delight. Before I could process anything, I stuttered " Jason " and my mouth fell open. I didn't think he would come back, or ever talk to me again. Of course, I still had feeling for him, even if they were tiny, they were there. My heart fluttered and I swallowed hard. Jason smiled and before he could say anything, his eyes darted to behind me. I turned around to find all my maids staring at me expectantly. " I need to go to the bathroom " Indigo stuttered and Crystal and Autumn nodded as they all raced to the bathroom. I turned around and pulled Jason in. " Come in " I said and closed the door behind me. " So, um, Annabelle I just- " He began but I interrupted him. " No, Jason listen " I began and he closed his mouth. " I'm- I'm sorry about the whole Andrew thing. " I said and he looked at me. " Just because I'm in the Selection doesn't mean that I don't have feelings about.. you. And that I don't think about.. um, us. " I said shyly and I could feel myself turning red. " So there is an us? " He asked me smirking and he took a step closer. I giggled and placed my hands on his chest. " I just want us to start over. No castes, no titles. Just us. Normal people. " I said and he smiled " I think I like that idea " He said and I smiled. I two a step back and extended my hand " I'm Annabelle Caspen. " I said and he shook my hand " Jason, Jason Austria " He said and he smiled too. As I let go of him, he ran his hand through his hair and looked at the ground nervously " Annabelle, I need to ask you something. Would you like to go on a d- " He began but another knock on my door rang through out the room. " Hold that thought " I said and he smiled, closing his mouth. I walked to the door and opened it to find a pair of warm chocolate eyes staring back at me " Maxon? " I said in shock and he smiled, not even bothering for me to let him in. " Annabelle I- " He began and then he spotted Jason, who was smiling cheekily at him. " Jay! " Maxon said happily and started to walk towards him. Then, he stopped abruptly " Wait, what is Jay- Jason doing here? " He asked me, turning around. " He was- " I began, wracking my head for an excuse but Jason interrupted me " just about to leave " Jason said and Maxon turned to face him " Oh, then. See you later Jay " Maxon said and gave Jason a man-hug. I rolled my eyes smiling, Maxon can be so naive sometimes. As Jason walked past me, he gave me a wink and a look that said We'll talk later. I blushed and closed the door. As I did I said " What are you doing here Max? " I asked him and faced him " I came to say goodbye. I know you want to use that time for Andrew " He said and I rolled my eyes yet again, blushing harder than ever. " Don't worry, you'll be back soon right? " I said and hugged him. " Not exactly " He said and I removed myself from his warm embrace. " What? " I said shocked and we sat down on a nearby sofa. " If everything goes right, then well be back in four or three days minimum " He said and I nodded " But if things go wrong.. then maybe five days, or a week... " He said and I stared at him " What? Why? " I said and he looked at the ground sheepishly " We need to work things out with the ambassador of New Asia and.. well, lets just say he's not very nice " He said and I looked at my hands, suddenly sad. " I don't want you to get hurt. You or Andrew " I said and Maxon lifted my head up to stare at his eyes " We wont get hurt. We'll protect each other. I promise " He said and I shook my head. " What if things go wrong? What if- " I began but Maxon stopped me from blabbering on " Things won't go wrong. Relax. Everything is going to be fine " He said and I suddenly found myself relaxing. My muscles relaxed and my heart rate went down, surprisingly. " Alright.. " I said and we stood up. " And, Princess Natalie will be coming to look after the rest of the Selection girls " Maxon said and I smiled. Princess Natalie was one of my favourite Princesses. She was so down to earth, and well, kind. " Now, my mom worries very often, so don't be surprised if she calls three or four more Princesses " Maxon continues and I look at him in disbelief " I'm serious! two years ago, when we went to New Asia for the very first time, we were gone for five days. And when we got back, we found almost twelve Princesses there " He said and I giggled. " Now, be safe okay? " I tell him, once were at my door. " Okay " He replies and hugs me. As hes walking down the hallway, I call him " Maxon! " I say and he turns around I run to him quickly " If anything happens to you and A-Andrew " I stutter and he takes my hand. " Just, just tell him that he makes me happy " I say and he smiles " I think he already knows that, but I'll tell him anyways " He says smiling and kisses my hand " See you later " I say to him and he nods, before turning around. I walk back to my room smiling when I hear a door burst open " Annabelle- is- it safe- to- come out- now? " Crystal pants and I smile while nodding my head. The rest of my maids came out too, panting for air. " I'm sorry you had to be in there " I say and Autumn waves it off " It was- nothing " She pants and I roll my eyes smiling. " Now Annabelle " Crystal begins. " Lets get you ready " She finished and I looked at the clock 8:34. Wait, 8:34?! " Oh my god I'm so late, I cant believe this is happening- " I say, dashing to the closet but I stop once I realize my maids were all staring at me with blank faces. " What? " I say confused and Indigo giggles " You don't know? Since the princes are leaving at twelve, they're having a brunch! " Crystal explains and I mentally slap myself. " Oh " I say and Autumn smiles " That explains the time " I joke and laugh with them. " Here " Crystal says and goes to the closet. I hear a lot of muffling and ruffling and finally she comes out with a gorgeous lavender dress. It had lace at the top and bottom and had a diamond belt. " Whoa " I say and they all smile " Its so..pretty " I say and they all nod in agreement. Its wasn't gorgeous or extremely overboard, like Celeste's dresses, it was simple, and graceful, but regal. It was pretty. I guess that's the only way you could explain it. Soon, Indigo begins on my makeup. She applies very little make up that's very subtle but yet beautiful. Then, Autumn comes and pins my hair up, into a low bun. She leaves little wispies out for a messy touch. Finally, Crystal comes in, placing me in the lavender dress. She adds creme heels with little bows in the back for a special touch. " Ta-da! " They all say as I look at myself in the mirror. I gasp softly. Now I know why they chose a lavender dress, its like the one I wore for the line-up that day. The day that they took my picture. The picture that got me into this competition. I immediately smiled brightly " Thank you so much girls. You don't know how much this means to me " I say and they all smile proudly. After, I step off the pedestal and go to the balcony. As I'm looking over the garden I hear a voice " Anna? " Indigo says softly and I turn around. " Yes? " I say and she smiles softly " You can call your mom if you want. There is a phone over there " She finishes and points to a frilly wall phone on the other side of the room " Okay " I say dryly. I haven't talked to my mom in, well, forever. I walk slowly towards the phone, deciding if I should call her or not. Suddenly, I hear the door close and realize my maids are all gone. I sigh deeply, and walk towards the phone faster. Once I get there I waste no time. I dial my moms number and wait for her lovely voice. " Hello? " She says, her voice a perfect blend of shock. " Mom its me, Anna " I say and I can practically hear her smile over the phone. " Annabelle! How are you? " She says and I begin to tell her everything, from Celeste, to Jason, and everything in between. I even tell her about Laia. After I finish she finally says " your dad would be so proud of you " I can feel the tears coming up already " He would want you to win " She finishes and I sigh, tears in my eyes " I know. I'll try " I tell her and she sighs. " Good. Now honey, I must get going. I have to take the girls to school " She says and I reply with " okay ". That used to be my job, now I wonder if things will ever get back to normal. After talking to my mom, I finally realize that things wont be the same, they might be different but hey, like Andrew said; different is good.
