'It didn't hurt as much as I thought it would have, Michael.' I sat staring at him. We were cramped together in a small closet.

Roger had thrown us in here so he could go get drunk somewhere else. I was glad he was gone.

But that joy was quickly replaced because Michael didn't even want to look at me since the beating. I thought it was because of how I looked.

I had welts all over my body. I had a black eye and cuts on my face. You could say I wasn't Alaina anymore.

Michael lifted his face and his face was bright with tears but also red with anger.

'I could have taken the beating, Alaina! You didn't have to do it for me! Look at you. You're all cut and bruised. I should have been cut and bruised!'

Michael got up and punched the door of the closet. I stared up at him. I didn't want to talk anymore.

I looked around the closet and came across an old, rusty sewing needle. I grabbed it and smiled.

I was basically a professional at picking locks. Which is why I kept getting suspended from school.

While Michael began punching the wall, I quickly began to mess with the lock on the closet. It only took a minute before the lock on the door knob opened. Michael turned with wide eyes.

I giggled softly and then opened up the door. The motel room smelled clean and lemony fresh. I'm guessing someone came in to clean it.

'What do we do?'

Michael came up behind me and swung his arm around me. I guess his bitch attack was over.

I shrugged and walked over to the door. I shut my eyes as I placed my hand on the door knob. I twisted it and soon was greeted by cold air. My heart stopped then. I couldn't believe it.

Was this stupid abduction over? I hoped so.

'What are you waiting for, Alaina? Run!' Michael grabbed my hand as he sped outside. We didn't stop running until we were a few blocks from the motel.

We ended up at a park with lush green grass and a little lake in the middle. Michael let go of my hand then and ran straight to the lake.

He jumped in clothes and all. He splashed and laughed. I watched with my heart fluttering every time his blue eyes landed on me.

I bit my lip wondering if I should do what I was about to do. I finally decided and I ran towards Michael.

I launched myself into the water and the cold water was soon all over me. I swam towards Michael. He grabbed me around my waist and then right there in the middle of the lake he kissed me.

I temporarily forgot about all the things that have happened to me recently. I was in love. I knew that for sure.

But I knew that I was also 12 and young. But that didn't matter because Michael was my everything.

'Ain't that cute, Greg?' Both Michael and I turned to the voice of a woman. You could tell she was high because of the blunt in her hand and red eyes.

The guy next to her seemed to as much under the influence as the women. I wasn't sure what they wanted so I backed away; Michael was right by my side. I gripped his hand as we slowly began to back away towards the shore of the lake.

'Where are you going? Don't you want a ride?' Greg, the man, came closer. He pulled out a walkie-talkie type phone and pressed the TALK button.

'Got them.' He said into the speaker. He waited for a minute and soon the radio beeped.

'Bring them back!' the voice yelled from the radio. The voice was angry and sounded like the devil.

And it was the devil. It was Roger. Michael must have realised this too because he began tugging me and we both started running as fast as we could in water.

We finally reached the shore and right as we set foot on land there was a loud pop. And then a scream. And then more pops came.
