7- A Ferrous Turn

A soldier enters into the court of AKBAR

Soldier

Lord almighty- I bring you this,
Lord Salim's armour of his first battle,
Sending foes to the house of Anubis
And making swords his boyish rattle

The soldier presents the armour to the king

AKBAR

I'm proud of my Salim at last,
After all of his immature games,
Be his victories big and fast
And thus he'll live up to the Mughal names

JODHA enters and picks up the armour and puts it to her chest

AKBAR
Queen of Hindustan in her pain yells?

JODHA
Just a mother nothing else!

Oh what is this Mughal unjustness
Where a mother shouldn't feel pain,
Cannot shed a tear, be careless,
Where a mother's tears are by father slain!

AKBAR

I do feel pain too- I do not lie
But never let those eyes weep,
If all such mothers started to cry,
India would drown in its tears deep

Go! Weigh this armour on a scale
And equal to it purchase golds,
Buy it but 'tis not for sale,
It is a gift for the poors and the olds
