A Lucky Reel

The plants here grow by the essence of moon

not of the sun, for a mystical boon

granted to these rakshasas illusive

and beasts that are to Patala exclusive.

But green's not what's stuck to these danava teeth

their lengthy canines have a meaty sheath

and their incisors are red with the blood

of the feast which they caught, last night in mud.

The clouds had now moved over to the woods

all the loyal stars now withdrew their hoods.

The plants and all creatures stiffened in heed

for the sky, again, in moonlight did bleed.

Sea, again, riant, pulsated throughout

the dark-skinned danavas were up and about

and one such squad of fishermen arrived

to net the finned fishes on which they thrived.

Their rods were longer for their arms were too

made of pliant and reinforced bamboo

the hook was made of gold, mellow were the bait

which were mudkins to the dinner they ate.

The baits were lowered into the ocean

and the wheels of life were set in motion.

The wine they drank now crept upto their eyes

so even the queen looked four times her size

but these tired twins were at once set ablaze

as one had reeled in a feast for the days!
