I took a deep breath and stepped onto the escalator that would take me down into my new world.

Okay seriously? I couldn't have just thought of that the first time?

I reached the bottom of the escalator and made sure I didn't trip on the way off. I looked up and was taken aback by the sheer amount of people milling around. My eyes landed on the group of people standing and holding signs. Some of the signs had pretty unique names. Literally there was a girl named Zuni Unique. I watched as people ran towards each other, squealing in happiness as they were reunited. I readjusted my backpack as I continued looking.

There.

My eyes landed on it.

April Renton

My eyes locked in on it. It was just a simple white paper with thick black letters. No decorations; very professional. Just like the letter. Honestly I didn't care, I was just glad someone actually showed up. What? I'm hungry. I let my eyes slowly drift up to meet the face of the person picking me up. Well that's definitely not Tony Stark. The face that greeted me was definitely more feminine. Sorry Tony but I'm willing to bet you squeal like a girl. She had strawberry blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail with some bangs gracing her forehead. Freckles were everywhere across her nose and under her eyes. She had simple red lipstick and other makeup that made her eyes a striking blue green color. She was dressed in a professional attire that, since I have no clue about fashion because I don't care, I will describe as a woman's suit. Okay then, here goes nothing. I slowly made my way over to her and stopped in front of her.

"Hi." I said softly, not really sure what to expect.

"April Renton?"

No I just like coming up to random people who don't have my name on a freaking sign.

"Yeah."

"It's nice to meet you Ms. Renton. I'm Pepper Potts." She extended her hand and I shook it.

My stomach twisted. That was my mom, not me. "Just call me April."

She nodded. "I'm an employee of Mr. Stark. Normally his driver, Mr. Happy Hogan, would be picking you up, but he had to drive Mr. Stark to a business meeting."

My eyebrows rose.
"So Stark isn't even," I paused not knowing the word for this new house I was going to, "at wherever I'm going to be living."

She gave me a pitiful face.
"He will be, just not today. It was an unexpected meeting, and of the utmost importance."

"Clearly," I scoffed. "A meeting more important than meeting his own daughter. You know what that actually sounds about accurate with what I've heard about him."

"I assure you, he is not as bad as he is made to seem." She seemed to mentally correct herself for dropping her all business persona. "He will not be joining you at the tower until tomorrow. Are you ready to head to the car?"

I nodded and followed her, and her clacking heels, through the airport. Her ponytail swished between her shoulders. Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth.

Sorry got distracted. She carried herself like someone important and she was picking me up, so I assumed she was pretty high up on Tony's list of employees. No I'm not being conceited when I say someone so important has to pick me up. I just mean that Tony probably doesn't want the world knowing about me so those who do, including Pepper here, must be really trusted. She sent me a look over her shoulder to make sure I was following her and I just rose my eyebrows. Why do people think I'm gonna run away? Again. I wasn't going to, especially not until I got some food. I could really go for a cheeseburger.

We had reached outside faster then I had realized and we were walking towards a white SUV. Wow looks fancy, guess I gotta get used to that. Pepper gestured towards the passenger door and I grabbed the handle, yanking open the door. Man that was heavier than it looked. Then it hit me and I couldn't help but stifle a chuckle.

Bulletproof car. Why not?

I hopped in, putting my bags at my feet. Pepper buckled herself into the drivers seat and glanced over at me.

"What happened to your hand?"

I looked down at my hand and saw the bandage. I had completely forgotten about it.

"I- I uh, punched a wall." I decided to quickly change the subject when all she did was blink at me. "Um since I've been on an airplane for the past couple of hours, do you think we can stop and get a cheeseburger?"

She paused for a moment, her hand halfway to the ignition. She looked at me and gave me a smile I couldn't help but feel was forced.

"Sure!"

As she jammed the key in the ignition and revved the engine, I could have sworn I heard her mutter "Starks."
