(The title sounds depressing but I SWEAR. NO PART OF THIS IS DEPRESSING. It'll make sense when you finish reading.)
Jared was with his boyfriend alone at the park when he realized it. He loved everything about Evan.. his laugh, which could cheer up anyone the moment they heard it, his eyes, beautiful and soothing, his smile, perfect and adorable.. then Jared realized it.
I want to spend forever with this man.
He couldn't stop thinking about it since the moment he realized it.
How would he do it? Would Evan ever accept it? What ring would he buy? He was pacing around his room thinking about it.
He decided to call Alana. When he called her, he found she was with Zoe. Perfect. He told them both everything, and how he wanted, no, needed to propose to Evan.
"Oh my GOOOOOOD!" Zoe squealed.
"That is AMAZINGG!" Alana squealed.
"I need help. Setting it up, y'know?"
"We will ABSOLUTELY help you!" Alana yelled.
"Thank you."
Alana hangs up.
Jared then called a friend of his.
"Hello?"
"Jakeeee. I need your helpppppp." Jared tells him.
"Who's that, babe?" Jared hears Jake's boyfriend say.
"Oh! Rich! That's perfect, I need all the help I can get." Then he told them.
"My god, that's adorable." Jake responds. You can literally hear him smiling.
"That is awesome." Rich says.
"Sooooo.. can you help?"
"Sure!" The two said.
"Yes! Excellent! Thank you!"
"No prob, my man." Jake responds, then hangs up.
The next day, Jake, Jared and Rich are walking through Kay at the local mall. Jared is looking for a "perfect" ring. He's seen a lot.
"Come onnnnn, Jared." Jake whines.
"Dude, it's been hours." Rich adds.
Jared sighs. He's about to leave, when.. he sees it. It's silver with a blue line through the middle. And a beautiful blue gem cut in the shape of a heart on it. The man at the counter says the gem is a Lapis Lazuli. The ring is about $255 and the box is blue velvet.
"It's.... perfect." Jared tells the man he's buying it and the man gives him the box.
"Who's the lucky lady?" The man asks.
"Actually, it's my boyfriend."
"Oh. Well, congratulations and have a nice day."
Jared passes the man the money and the three walk out. Then Jared's phone buzzes. It's Evan asking for a video call.
"Crap!" Jared and Jake yell.
Rich yelled "FUCK!" At the same time as them. They ran away so the store wasn't in view then Jared answered.
"Heyyy babe."
Evan's expression was verrrry angry.
"Have you SERIOUSLY been canceling our plans to go hang out with your other friends at the mall?"
"No, babe, it's not that."
"Then what is it?"
"I can't say.."
"Why?"
"...I just can't."
Evan growled and hung up.
Meanwhile, Evan was so frustrated he was about to cry. He loved Jared, and he didn't wanna break up with him, but he thought maybe Jared didn't love him anymore. Was he just breaking off with his friends to avoid having to say that? No. Jared was just... busy. With what? He didn't know, but he did know it was important. Evan sighed.
A week later, everything was ready. Jared was at home with Evan.
"Hey, Evan?"
"Yes?" Evan braced himself. He really thought Jared was about to ask to break up with him.
"Wanna go out somewhere tonight? I feel bad for not having spent much hugs and Jerry with you so I planned something for us."
Evan hugged Jared. "Of course! I'd love to."
Step 1 was successful.
That night, Evan and Jared were dressed up and ready. They got into Jared's car and Jared drove to some restaurant called "Luke's".
"Reservations for Jared Kleinman." Jared said to a man by the door.
"Right this way." The man said, then led Jared and Evan through the restaurant and out to its backyard. There was 4 small white tables with white table cloths and a small patch of grass surrounded by rosebushes. There was crossing white and blue lights hanging above the small area. And by one of the rosebushes was a white bench with a ukelele on it.
Evan smiled and looked at Jared. "What's all this?"
Jared smiled back. "You'll see."
They sat down and ordered the best food they had ever had. Before Evan could order dessert, Jared grabbed his hand and led him to the bench. Evan sat down, and Jared sat down next to him. He picked up the ukelele and began to play a song Evan loves he learned special for this.
Merrily we fall out of line, out of ljne
I'd fall anywhere with you, I'm by your side.
Swinging in the rain humming mel-odies
We're not going anywhere until we freeze.
I'm not afraid anymore, I'm not afraid.
Jared stood in front of Evan playing.
Forever is a long time
But I wouldn't mind spending it by your side...
Jared set the ukelele down next to him and got down on one knee.
"Evan Hansen," he said, "you are my everything, the love of my life, the light that guides me through the dark."
Evan gasped. "Jared.. is this..?"
Jared pulled the box out of his pocket. "So, Evan Hansen.. will you become my husband to join me forever by my side?"
Evan was crying. He didn't know what to say. He got down and kissed who is now his fiance.
"Yes! Yes, yes, yes! I wouldn't even think to say no!"
They were both crying, holding each other tight.
Then the two saw Alana and Zoe, Michael and Jeremy, and Jake and Rich at the other 3 tables clapping.
Suddenly, Rich stands up.
"Jake... do you remember when we were with Jared helping him buy the ring?"
Jake nodded.
"Well.. you weren't paying attention, but.."
He got down on one knee. Jake gasped.
Rich opened the box to reveal a beautiful gold ring studded with rubies. "I got you this.. in hopes you'd join me forever as well."
Jake gasped. The other three couples gasped as well.
"YES!! YES, ABSOLUTELY, RICH!!" Jake screamed, hugging his short fiance.
Had to add some extra gay. DOUBLE THE GAYYY. LOTS OF GAAYYYY.
