I pulled the brim of my fedora down over my eyes as Roger walked by trailing behind Raoul, hitting himself in the head with a frying pan. I'm screwed if that rabbit sees me and if a certain someone knows I'm still kicking. I'd never hear the end of it. Maroon Studios was producing another Roger and Baby Herman short film and Roger messed it up 23 times. Out of all the times that refrigerator was dropped on his head, he couldn't see stars... which I have no idea why. Stars are the easiest thing to see. My partner Eddie Valiant stood beside watching the productions as well. This sourpuss couldn't crack a smile for nothing to which I completely understand. When you in cases like us, there's no time for laughing matters.

"Toons..." Eddie exhaled exasperatedly, taking a swig of whatever alcohol he had in that canteen of his.

I snorted and looked at him from under my fedora.

"Love you too, Eddie." I said swishing my tail slowly behind me. Eddie gave me a small grin. Out of all the toons he "hated" I was the only one who could get a small rise out of him.

"You, Birman, are the only exception." He said.

"I feel so loved." I rolled my eyes which earned a small chuckle from Eddie. Eddie wasn't always the sourpuss everyone sees today. I've been around long enough to see him and his brother, Teddy, having a good ol' time clowning around. They were the best of friends. They were like me and my sister, Ivy. Ivy wasn't a toon; she was a human like my mother who fell in love with my dad, who was a toon. Teddy and Ivy were partners on a case and the next thing I know, I'm getting a phone call in the middle of the night saying a toon dropped a piano on my sister's head. I wasn't the same after that and neither was Eddie. I couldn't bare to stay in Toontown anymore, so I left. And I left him behind as well. If the toon who took out Ivy and Teddy was still out there, then their wasn't a doubt in my mind that Eddie and I weren't off the hook. I didn't want anyone else I loved to get hurt, especially him.

"A day before our wedding day too." I mumbled.

"Hm?" Eddie hummed looking at me but I waved him off and soon we were off to R.K. Maroon's office. A human lady showed us the way.

"Mr. Maroon, Mr. Valiant and Ms. Birman is here to--" The lady was cut off when R.K. raised his hand to silence her.

"He'll be right with you" The lady said before she left, closing the office doors behind her. R.K. was standing behind his editor watching a film through a moviola

"No, no, no! Wait until he gets to his feet. Then hit him with the boulder" R.K. ordered the guy working the machine before turning towards Eddie and I. There was always something sketchy about this guy. R.K. looked towards me.

"You've been on stage haven't you, Ms. Birman? Tell me something about it" He said.

"There's no business more expensive. You don't play your cards in business correctly, you can kiss your life and all your money goodbye" I said. R.K. nodded.

"Precisely, and the two of you saw the rabbit blowin' his lines. He can't keep his mind on his work. You know why?"

"One too many refrigerators dropped on his head?" Eddie replied. I snicker and playfully punch him in the arm with my tail.

"He's a toon, Eddie. You can drop anything on our heads and we'd be fine"

"But break his heart, he goes to pieces, just like the two of you or me. Read that." R.K. said and handed Eddie a newspaper.
